Possibly Cancelling the Brew Swap

People,

I'm giving serious consideration to cancelling the Brew Swap for the following reasons:

1. The gentleman who was originally going to coordinate the event in person (since I cannot attend) has now informed me he probably won't be able to make MOTD either. This leaves us without anyone to coordinate the event the night of and I know of no one else I could pull into this.

2. Lack of interest: yes I know it's early but compared to last year and the year before the interest in the Swap appears low.

3. We're near the phase where myself and at least one other person will have to start out of pocket expenses. I don't want to do that if this thing is up in the air or could turn out to be run poorly.

Bottom line is I don't want this thing to be half-assed which is the path it is currently on. I'd rather cancel it and have people throw together an informal Brew Swap, kind of like year one.

If anyone wants to take this event over, completely, then speak up. If there are masses of you out there counting on attending this event speak up now. I'm going to make the decision in the next week. If a coordinator steps up to take it over and/or the masses speak up then maybe we can move it forward. And don't just post that it's a good event and should still be held. I need to hear from people planning to attend and pay the $15 fee.

It's just been a convergence of bad things which has put the Swap in this position. Wish it wasn't so but reality is reality.

***TO ANYONE WHO HAS ORDERED A T-SHIRT, IF THE EVENT IS CANCELLED YOU WILL BE REFUNDED THE ENTIRE AMOUNT YOU PAID IMMEDIATELY AFTER I POST ABOUT THE CANCELLATION***

I'm planning on attending and competing!

I can't take on the primary responsibility for making this happen (I've already got 3 drives that I'm leading), but I am happy to assist wherever I can. If you can find a #1 to take leadership, I'll gladly be #2, #3, #4 or #47 to help pull it off.

We will miss you!

Maybe someone would be interested in 'co-leading' this with me?

I'd be willing to co-run it but seeing the talk of out of pocket expenses makes me balk at it, mainly because it's tax time and I don't have out of pocket money .

But if you just need someone willing to help run and organize I'm good for it.

Stephany and I will attend and pay whatever $$$ it cost to attend.

I would be willing to assist in running it with either minimotorin or someone else. I think agranger has enough to do but he sure has the necessary spirtit! PM me to get this started but I'd be up to do this. Michael

This is the only event that is on my MUST Do list every year. You can put me down for 2 attending. I am willing to help wherever possible.

To be honest, the beer and the people are the main reason I attend. The rest is a bonus, and I could definately live without it if need be.

This will be my first MOTD. I'm not really sure how this Brew Swap event works but since it seems to involve good beer I want to be there!

We will just have to swap brew in the yard if this doesn't work out Matt, and we will raise many a pint to you since you can't make it!

The out of pocket is small in reality and is an issue only until registrations are received. Matt pays for what he needs to out of his pocket and then the registrations cover it.

If we can still pull this off ad people are worried about out of pocket expenses please dont as I will pay for all expenses associated with this event to get it setup.

OHHHHHH NOOOOOOO! This MUST happen! I thought this is why the MOTD exists! Count me in and I know of two others NAM members that will want to attend. (They're currently on an island somewhere enjoying the nice warm weather!) If you need help, count me in.

I think I found the people needed to take this over and pull it off. I'm working with them and we should know more by this time next week.

Thanks, Chris! I made the same offer earlier today too... we are just waiting for final confirmation from our new, interim Fearless Leader. Maybe the charity for 2009 will be the "KidnapMatAndForceHimToRunTheBrewswap Foundation". Many thanks to Matt, Chris and everyone who has voluenteered to make this happen in 2008 (and all the previous years)!

I already told the bum I would take care of his airline ticket. I can't force his boss to give him more vacation time... or wait can I?
Matt, give me your boss's name and number i need to speak to him about an important business matter that affects his job performance!

there you go... not allowing him to go will effect his ability to perform his job at his already high level.

CustomAV - you pay his ticket and I'll pay for Heidi... There Matt... now what???
