Hi all......Quick question..
Those people that decided to have the GPS system instead of the Speedo in the middle !!...Would you do it all over again given the chance ?
and how good is the system that Mini uses ?..
Also, are the 04's going to have an improved system or still the same..I heard the system isn't that great but may be I'm wrong....I have a portable garmin system now and wanted to know if it's worth the extra $$$...
Cheers to all ajnd love all the comments made through out the site...

I got it, and I'd get it again. It's not as flexible as I would have hoped, I expected it to be more like the Hertz Neverlost system, but its not bad. I used it on my last major road trip to re-route me off the interstate (but didn't let the system plot my route, I figured the route to take based on the system's maps)

Systems from March '03 have DVD drives instead of CD's. The CD set is 7 CDs for the Continental US, and you only get the CD for your local region, have to pay for any other areas that you might want. However 1 DVD covers the entire country. I did however hear that there were some issues with the DVD and that they hadn't been released yet and that cars were still being deliverd with the CD's and the DVD's would be mailed to owners when they finally are released. Although I don't have any confirmation on what the DVD equipted cars are being shipped with.

Plus if your wealthy like Antsmini you can modify your Nav system so you can watch DVD movies!

I got a May 03 w/ the DVD system.

1. I'm happy that I have the speedo on top of the steering wheels
2. Although it was a really tough decision to make (its a lot of $$$$), I would not hesitate to get it again.
3. If you have a girlfriend that gets quirky when you get lost/can't find someplace (even though you've never been there before), dislikes traffic and is always looking for alternate routes, then this is for you. Its the one surefire way of shutting her up at the right times

It can be a real lifesaver. Already, I can tell you about 5 stories that end a lot better because of it...

I too thought about the onboard nav system when I ordered my Cooper S but thought it would be handier if I had a portable one so I could use it in other vehicles. Which portable Garmin do you have and how do you like it? I just ordered the new Garmin iQue 3600.

My MCS was a March 2003 build and it was delivered with the DVD based Navigation with DVD, not CD. One DVD gives you coverage for the whole US and Canada. Personally, I like the speedo next to the tach and I like the processing speed of the new DVD based system, plus it is a three dimensional GPS which gives you elevation. Two things I would like to see changed on cars with Nav are the outside temperature can not be displayed if the Nav screen is displaying the map and there is no engine temp gauge, only an idiot light. If I were to do it again, I would order the same exact car including the Nav. It is a fun toy and useful tool.

I LOVE toys, so with that said I knew we'd want the NAV system (yes, we got the DVD).

It's not perfect, but it works VERY well and, at the end of the day, there really is nothing like finding all the Chinese restaurants in a 25 mile radius when you're on a road trip and craving some Kung Pao Shrimp!

We'd buy it again in a heartbeat.

I love it I only wish it was more up to date...My subdivision was started last year but my June 03 DVD didn't cover my street Wish it could do other thing with the screen like show auxiliary digital/analog guages for thing like oil, water, etc..
