Gauge Colors

Anybody know if there are any companies out there that have gauge overlays that change the color of the gauge lighting? Like blue or red?

check over on mini2, i think someone in the UK does it, that said, i don't think he sells a 'kit' rather you have to drive to him to get it done

seeing we are across the ocean... i think unless you can send your speedo and tach to him, i think its gonna be difficult

The stuff posted above will change the gauge face but the color of the lighting remains the same. At least one or two folks here have changed the LEDs to blue... check the interior mods forum.

It can't be done with overlays. You have to replace all the LEDs.

I was wondering about overlays because on my Silverado, I used an overlay to change the gauge face from black to white, while it also had a clear, tinted film that you dont see that changed the lighting from green to indigo blue (the truck has leds also). Several places make these for customizing trucks. Why not the Mini?

The MINI gauges are illuminated by LEDs that actually emit amber light. You can add tint to the overlay but it would be filtering amber colored light. If the illumination had been white light instead of amber, it would have been possible to tint the overlay to get whatever color you want.

Find the size of the LED and order whatever color you want here.

I am going to try and find the bulb / LED type in the Bentley Service Manual for us. I have done this mode before in many Nissans and it is very easy. Mini/BMW will be little different. (Researching)

No doubt the Nissans are using replaceable bulbs in sockets. The MINI gauge LEDs being discussed here are surface-mount technology soldered onto the circuit board, and not designed to be individually replaced or repaired (if an LED failed, a dealer would replace the entire gauge assembly). However it can be done if you know which compatible parts to use, and had the tools and skills to do surface-mount soldering. Look at the link to the thread I posted above. Here is Foxtrot_Xray's photo of the LEDs (circled) that need to be replaced on the speedo circuit board:

Look at post #39 in the thread I gave a link to earlier (https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...ad.php?t=94118). BTW, they are not bulbs.
