Trouble reading top-of-dash-mounted GPS

I recently got a Tomtom One XL and yesterday was the first time I tried using it with the top down and the sun behind me. The screen was very hard to read unless I shaded it with my hand. I started wondering about a hood for the screen - anyone ever seen anything like that?

OK, after 5 years, it might be getting about time for a NEW GPS. Does anybody else think that perhaps a motorcycle gps might make more sense for a convertible? It should be easier to read in sunlight, right?

You mention sun. If you are wearing polarized sunglasses they will make the screen real dark.

Did you get a motorcycle one? I have the same problem. I notice my phone isn't as hard to read. So are the newer ones easier to read with glasses in the sun?
