Has anyone removed there chrome fuel cap from the hinge assembly, whats the trick to getting it off without breaking it?

 

if you are just wanting to take the chrome off here is how you do it:

if you are looking at the inside of the cap (the black side) there is a small tab at the top that can be push up and down. use a small screwdriver and pull the tab down towards the ground. with it pulled down (you will need to pull it a good bit down) turn the cap towards the MINI and it will pop off.
