Just went in for service level II. Price starts at $570 to just drive through the door.

They found 2mm left on rear brakes, couldn't save the rotors, as well as driver's side tie rod. Of course that led to an alignment.

Had a slight vibration around 70 so had all 4 balanced.

Had suffered from the dreaded frozen boot hinge so they needed to be replaced - that was almost $400 right there.

Finally, as I had been waiting for a year, I got bonnet stripes

All in all it came to just over $2300.

Inskip MINI did a great job and I have nothing but nice things to say about them. After all, parts costs are not their fault......

Just wanted to share for those who approaching this service level.

 

What mileage was this done at?

 

Do you have the list of maintenance items that go into Service Level 2?

 

mileage for me was a tick over 59k - of course that varies with your own driving style/conditions.

I will try to get the full list of what is serviced - it was a two page list. I meant to take it with me after service, but forgot to grab it.

 

You didn't have your second service until 59,000 miles ?!?!

With normal driving, it's done at 25,000 miles. Holy Schnikies, Batman !

Right now we're trying very hard to put 2,000 miles on our MCSC before the 3 year free-maintenance runs out so the second maintenance is covered for free (I know it is very close to the brake light sensor coming on). The car has 32,000 miles.

Our two Coopers will both have their second maintenance at 29,000 miles.

59,000 ? Wow.

 

i think he is referring to the level 2 service rather than the second level 1 service

glad i bought mine used after all that was done, i couldnt have ever afforded it with the monthly payment.

 

I guess I need to learn the service lingo. I assumed they were service 1,2,3,4, etc.

were you able to grab the list of inspection they use because i would rather check the stuff myself instead of going to the dealer and paying extra for labor charges you know?

 

I'm sorry - I have not been able to get to the dealer yet. I'll try emailing the SA tomorrow to see if he can email or fax me the list of inspection attributes

to everyone else.... Is there anywhere that service inspection intervals and what they entail are posted? (web,dealer brochure,etc) i looked in our owner's manuals and cannot find anything. MINI says we have 3/36 free maintenance but how is one to KNOW what that entails? How can one MINI have service at 59k and others before 36k?? (driving habits -i'm assuming) thx michael

 

doesn't it say in the owner's manual what they check at each service interval? i would check mine, but my mini is in storage for the winter. i know i saw a list of what service entails what checks somewhere...

 

MINI Inspection II

Undercarriage
Change oil and oil filter while engine is at operating temperature.
We recommend MINI Synthetic Motor Oil, p/n 07 51 0 143 829
Check transmission for leaks.
Half shafts: Check for leaks at flexible boots. Visually check fuel tank, lines and connections for leaks.
Check condition, position, and mounting of exhaust system. Examine for leaks.
Check power steering system for leaks.
Check p/s fluid level; add fluid if necessary.
Check overall thickness of front and rear disc brake pads (outer pads only) using special tool.
If replacement is necessary:
Examine brake disc surfaces. Clean brake pad contact points in calipers. Grease wheel centering hubs.
Check thickness of parking brake linings only when replacing rear pads.
Check steering for absence of play, condition of suspension track rods, front axle joints, steering linkage and joint disc.
Check brake system connections and lines for leaks, damage, and incorrect positioning.
Check parking brake actuation. Adjust if necessary.
Check all tire pressures (including spare). Correct if necessary.
Check condition of tires (outer surfaces [left/right]), tread wear and pattern; in case of uneven tread wear readjust wheel alignment if requested(to be
invoiced separately.)
Note: If requested rotate all four road wheels as instructed and rebalance.
(invoiced separately.) Inspect entire body according to terms of rust perforation limited warranty (must be performed at least every two years).

Engine Compartment
Read out diagnostic system.
Check engine cooling system/heater hose connections for leaks.
Check coolant level and antifreeze protection level; add coolant if necessary.
Note: Coolant must be replaced every 4 years (time interval begins from vehicle's production date).
Check level of brake fluid in reservoir. Add fluid if required. Replace brake fluid every 2 years (timing interval begins from vehicle's production date).*
Check windshield washer fluid level and antifreeze protection. Fill up and/or correct if necessary.
Check air conditioner operation. Replace microfilter.
Note: reduce replacement interval in dusty operating conditions.
eset Service Interval Indicator.
Replace intake air cleaner element.
Note: Reduce replace interval in dusty operating conditions.
Replace poly V-belt.

Body/Electrical Equipment
Check battery state-of-charge, and charge if required.*
Check lighting system, i.e., headlights, foglights, parking, back-up, license plate, interior, glove box, illuminated make-up mirrors, luggage area lights. Check instrument panel and dashboard illumination.
Check all warning/indicator lights, check control.
Check turn signals, hazard warning flashers, brake lights, horns, headlight dimmer/flasher switch.
Check windshield and tailgate wipers and washer systems; wiper blades, washer jet positions.
Check condition and function of safety belts.
Check central locking system. Check operation of all latches.
Check heater/air conditioner blower fan, rear window defogger.
Check rear view mirrors.
Visually examine the SRS airbag units for torn covers, obvious damage or attachment of decals, decorations or accessories.

Final Inspection
Road test with check of brakes, suspension, steering, clutch/manual transmission or automatic transmission. Visually check shock absorbers for leaks.

 

I was going to say check the Mini "Owners' Lounge" on the main Mini site.

Here in Detroit I was just quoted over $600 for Inspection II. Would hate to see what it could become if parts need replacing. If only independent MINI service mechanics could create their own version of the inspections...

 

This little tale would seem to make paying $1300-$1500 for the extended maintenance service out to 100K miles or 6 years well worth the cost!

FWIW, MINI recommends replacing rotors every time you replace pads. At the dealer, there is no 'saving the rotors'.

 

o.O my inspection is coming in 10K miles. from the sounds of this, i don't think i can afford it !

 

Wow - good thing I check most of those myself every few months.

Not sure how much sarcasm to sense out of this. When I was pricing out a particular part for my Mini I called up Inskip (closest dealer) and Classic Mini in Ohio. The price Inskip quoted was twice that of Classic's price and that was before Classic's NAM discount. I was not impressed.

It should be based on your service indicator telling you it's time. I don't know if the list is in the manual or not. I would assume, but you never know. I just copied if from the Owners Lounge info. Click on Your MINI at the top of the page, then Maintenance Schedule. There is a drop-down with all the major services listed.

I will check the book and let you know. I think I have a pdf of it on my computer.
