R56 warm leatherette
warm leatherette
My apologies to Grace Jones fans, but I'm not sure how I feel about warm leatherette. (Makes me think of melting plastic.) I've built my MINI and this is my last decision. I want the leatherette seats because their cheap and easy to keep clean. But, I live in NYC and think I'd appreciate a warm butt.
Any opinions?
I'd appreciate any comments pro or con on whether to get the cold weather package with leatherette seats.
thanks

I got the fabric seats with the cold weather package - and I live in Dallas. I don't care where you live...if you have the option to have a warm bottom in the car, I say go for it! I have leather seats in my Odyssey and use the seat warmer every time I get in the car during the winter. Even if it's just to take the chill off, then turn the warmer off.
Good luck - what other specs have you chosen?

I live in texas I have the heated seats its nice to have the option it take 2 seconds to get very warm. I cant keep it on for more than 1 minute. I know texas climate is nothing compared to up North.

I passed on the heated seats b/c I have a garage so 1/2 the time I enter the car it really isn't that cold, and also when I tried the heated seats in a 5-series by the time the heated seats warmed to body temp, my butt would have heated the seat naturally. I know if you warm up the car, it will be toasty, but here in NJ the winters (like this one) really aren't that bad.
...well, that's what I tell myself when I needed to cut the cost of my Mini...
If I lived farther North, I'm sure it would have made the cut.

I have heated leatherette seats in my 03 MC. They are great, keep your buns warm in the winter. I sometimes even turn them on in the summer on long road trips to keep my back muscles limber.
Oh, and the leatherette is very easy to keep clean and looking good. I have 94k miles on my MINI, back seats are always folded down and my drivers seat still looks like the back seats, no wear or fading.

I wasn't sold on the heated seats, but got them mainly to appease my gf and because I wanted the heated washer jets/mirrors that came with the cold weather package.
After two weeks of proper winter I'm soooo glad I got them. They warm up almost instantly. My commute's so short the car doesn't warm up fully until I'm almost to work, but the seats are warm by the time I'm to the end of my street. I really like them, even though I've just got the cloth/leather seats. And they're not just for your bottom. It's also like having a heating pad for your lower back.

I had never owned a vehicle with heated seats before I got my '06 Cooper. My significant other insisted I get the heated seats, so I gave in. Best decision I ever got bullied into! They heat up real fast, even when the outside temp is -30C!
Thanks for all the replies. So far more pros in the leatherette/heat combo. Keep 'em coming!

I have heated leatherette seats and am happy with them so far!
They heat up quicker than the heater, so they make really cold mornings more tolerable.

most people assume my leatherette seats are leather anyway.
and it was -5 this morning. the seats heated up fast, I had to turn them off after about 10 minutes.
on the other hand, the car never really warmed up inside in my entire 20 minute commute.

We live in SoCal and seat warmers are still a must. It regularly goes down into the 40's this time of year (oh, the horror, the horror).
I have them in my Audi and use them maybe 3 months out of the year.... my wife on the other hand probably uses them 10 months out of the year! For her it is probably the most important car feature - or at least high on the priority list after engine and wheels....
She still complains about the lack of them in my F-150..... for 3 years now.
