Earliest you have changed brakes

What is the earliest anyone has changed brakes on their R56?

I don't really drive my car hard- and I don't ride the brake pedal- however the dealership wants me to change my front and back brakes before 25,000. My computer also tells me this.

I am thinking that I must have faulty brake pads because there is no way that I wore the brakes down that fast. In my last Mini (R53) I changed the brakes at 70,000.

Well, the good news is it is covered under the free maintenance, so go ahead!

That should not be the case at all. For 3 years and 36,000 miles, all MINIs get free maintenance. This includes oil changes, windshield wipers, brakes, anything that is a wear item that needs replacing (except tires.)

I suspect that they may be trying to fleece you.

The free maintenance info is in your owner's book, too.

A decent brake job should only be around $300, in any case.

Yeah 750 would even be a pricey job with brand new rotors and pads. Doesn't sound right especially with the free maintenance bit.

On my car (R53) we had our first brake change at around 12k miles. And was fully covered under the maintenance package, as was the brake change at 46k miles.

Almost going over 1000 miles on my Mini, hopefully won't have to change them for a long time. My Jeep Liberty has 50,000 and is still on the original brakes

well, I take back everything I said, then. I have no Idea how canada works.

on the bright side, brake changes are a great way to introduce yourself to the 'do it yourself' side of things.

and you'll save some serious cash!

Yeah i guess Canada must be different then. Brakes are a good do it yourself bit, or maybe find a shop good with foreign cars. Like i said before 750 should be with rotors and I sure hope the rotors don't go after 25k on the mini. 750 for just pads is really ridiculous. Not sure about with the different currency (even though its about the same now) but 750 is really high here. I'm sure that would mess up their US free service if they had to buy everyone new rotors before it expired.

I currently have 3500 miles on my car and the service indicator is showing 14,000 miles to go for the front brakes and 18,000 miles to go for the rear ones. I drive in stop-and-go type traffic mostly and I also like driving my car hard on the back roads in the weekends.

Know how to check????

Rather than wondering if the computer and/or advisor are 'right' ... do you remember the old fashion way to check?

Look at the pad .... if the pad material is less than the thickness of the pad backing plate it is time to be thinking replacement. Material thicker than that? Drive on .....

You can check this without pulling the wheel ... depending on the wheel.....

Unfortunately some maintenance shops know that telling you ya need brakes if kind of emotional....who wants to suddenly discover they have no brakes. Last time I was told I needed brakes I was a bit dubious.... I'd replaced the brakes DIY just weeks before... I guess I looked like a sucker....

Earliest we've done front brake pads on a R56 was at 7000 miles!
We don't know how this happened and client did not disclose any clues as to his driving style.
It was an '07 MCS with manual trans.
