Nope....they are definitely plastic as are the door handles and grille . They're just chrome plated.

Actually they are plastic. Just had mine off for Joey mod and indeed they are plastic with chrome.

3rd that, they are rather durable plastic. Except for the fragile plastic tabs on the back. I just painted my rings this past weekend. Sanded, primed, wet sanded, painted, and cleared. Hopefully it'll last a bit.

Keep us posted on how well it lasts.
I want flat black rings and would rather paint, for cost considerations, but will do a wrap if that does not work well.

I am going to paint this weekend! What do you all think of painting the rings on the car if I was to mask off REALLY REALLY good. I am trying to eliminate the need to take them off for fear of breaking the tabs. I can see a pretty good gap between the hood and the ring where it would be pretty easy to tape off???

Sounds like a bad idea to me.
Just a little over spray and you will have wished you took the time to take them off.
Also, my guess is prep will be much easier with the rings off so you don't damage the lights.
Just my $.02.

jtack-do yourself a favor and take them off. like thulchatt said, it'll make the prepping much easier. plus i'd be afraid of dripping since theyre going to be in a somewhat vertical position if still on the lamp.
