Picking up new Mini tonight plus question on auto vs manual

Going to pick up the 94 Mayfair tonight. Talked to the guy today, he bought 12" minilites for it with new tires less than a year ago, about a year ago, he had the auto trans rebuilt, body is supposed to be in good shape along with the interior, burl dash, from the pics looks like dark probably black interior, failed inspection for rust underneath. Mileage is supposedly about 40k. The debate is to just put it up on ebay with a 100 pound reserve after I swap the wheels & tires for some black steelies, or strip it. The other mini fell through, the guy paid his fees, and is having it towed to the high school parking lot, presumably to rot there? The debate is someone told me auto trans blocks are different than manuals. Can anyone confirm?

Ok, just got home, engine runs good (although I was worried about running out of gas, but just made it), transmission shifts nice, interior is grey velour, front drivers seat needs the support underneath either restitched, or replaced (the rubber in the middle is torn all the way, so your almost sitting on the floor), battery looks like is toast, had to be jumped to start, and when I got home, could barely crank over, body wise rust actually isnt too bad, a little around the corner of the windshield, but not bad. Wheels are nice, one has some oxidation, like maybe the wrong cleaner was used, but should clean up nice. Looks to be a very nicely taken care of car. I'll post some pictures tommorrow when its light out.

From Minimania FAQ:-
The automatic engine can be fitted to a manual gearbox, but about the only compatible components are the block and head. The block needs the following modifications: a spacer for the pump recess, two holes drilled at the oil filter mounting boss, a drilling to the pump through the pressure relief valve passage, replacing of the relief valve seat for a undrilled one (factory mod). You also still need a manual gearbox, clutch, driveshafts and front subframe.

.......Mini Autos are now very unique and rare and worth preserving if in working order but it is essential to change the shared oil and filter more often than the manuals say every 3-4000 miles ideally to extend its life.
