R50/53 New MINI, a few Q's
New MINI, a few Q's
Hello there,
Just pickked up my MINI yesterday! 2 Questions after 1 day with her.
1: In the center of the dash, right up by the winshield, there's a little hole a little smaller than a quarter. I assume this is for some kind of light sensor.
I'm guessing there's a cap that goes in there. If so, what would you call that, as I need one
2: My rear view mirror does not seem to dim. The mirror has a light sensor on it (it's the mirror with the 3 buttons on the bottom left for the Garage), and from what I read in the manual, it should auto dim. Any ideas?
Thanks!

well i dont know what it would be called, but just take it in and show them and they will get you one...yes it is a cap that goes on so if they dont know what you mean just show them on one of the cars in the lot
Do you have the rain-sensing wiper? You can tell from the black rectangular piece attached to the windshield behind the mirror. If you do then the mirror should auto-dim but I think that can be turned off on the unit. If the bottom of the mirror has the manual **** for at night then it just has the homelink and that is it. Depends on the options on the car.
You can get homelink without dimming mirror; you can get dimming mirror without rain sensing - although in recent cars there's a "convenience package" including everything, you can also order individual items.
Anyway.
If the mirror has auto-dimming, it will have a light sensor at the bottom center just below the mirror glass. It will also have another sensor on the "back" of the mirror, facing oncoming traffic (there's a hole in the casing which you should be able to see from outside the car).
If you cover the rear facing sensor during daylight, the mirror should dim over a few seconds.

It has the sensors on front and back, but it didn't seem to dim on my drive 2 days ago. I'm 100mi from the closest dealer. I'll have them check it out when I go there to have them install roof racks. Just wamted to make sure it wasn't something silly I was missing.
Thanks
Thanks
