R56 Service Reminder question
Service Reminder question
When I start my Mini, the service reminder in the tach says "21,000 2/2008". I bought my MCS in July 2007 and it has 2900 miles on it not 21,000, so I called the dealer and asked if I should go by the miles or the date. He said to bring it in next month (Feb.) but seemed a little unsure. I live 1 1/2 hours away from the dealer so going there is not just "dropping by", especially if he was wrong. Has anyone else had experience with this? I certainly don't want to make a wasted trip.

Ah yes.....I did not want to wait until 15,000 miles to have my oil changed, so I opted to have it done around 7500, that was in October. I bought my 07 MCS in March 07 and the service countdown has never been "right". It currently says that the car needs an oil change in 7000 miles, or in 1/2008. I only have 11,200 miles on it. The dealer told me to bring it in to have the oil changed....even though I just had it done 2 1/2 months ago...apparently they don't reset the service countdown unless you have the oil changed when the car thinks it needs it. Looks like mine will be getting new oil at the end of the month (and my dealer is 5 hours away) so I feel your pain!!
The date in service reminder seems to be pretty screwy. Mine says something like 05/2009 which is two years from when I got it. I'm pretty sure the dealer will honor the one year anniversary for the service, despite what the OBC says. If you are worried, look it up on the paper copy of your warranty. Or, it might be in the manual -- I don't recall. If it is on paper, the dealer is going to honor it.
