Road Hazard Tire Coverage

Hi, sorry if this has been answered before but couldn't find exactly the answer.

I have a MCS with 8500 miles with run flats. I got the road hazard tire coverage from the dealer when I purchased the car. I noticed yesterday that on one of the tires on the sidewalls, it was raised about 1/8" the size of a golf ball. Is that part of the run flats? Anyway, I'm getting no indicator saying there is nothing wrong with my tire just concerned since the other tires don't seem to have that and just noticed this. I would like to get it checked out to be safe. Here is my question, do I have to go to the dealer for them to look at this? The closest dealer is 2 hours away. I like to take it to Discount tire which is 5 minutes away but will the road hazard tire coverage be honored there if I have to get a replacement?

1. This bulge is bad, get it fixed immediately (only fix is replacement)
2. You won't see a warning until there is a drop in tire pressure.
3. I would expect the road hazard to only be good at the dealer, but maybe they are willing to comp. another shop. You will have to give them a call.

bulge usually indicates a bend in the steel cords in the tire. Needs replacing,. This should be covered by road hazard warranty.

Thanks, I will call my MA tomorrow. Hopefully, it will be safe to drive 2 hours if I have to go the dealership.

usually means a defective tire, unless you curbed the wheel or something. It may even be covered under a manufacture warranty.

Our road hazard warranty covers the tires regardless of who replaces them. The only caveat is that someone has to do the paper work so you might have to pay and send for reimbursement.

Don't quote me on this, but I doubt you would be forced to make the drive on a bad (dangerous) tire. If you were to wreck and be injured on the way, the dealership could be opening itself to some major litigation, which they will want to avoid at all costs. I'd call them, and if they are unwilling to pay for the service at a local shop, tell them to send a flatbed truck to get your car and bring it back when they're finished. That's the policy at my dealership any time the car is under warranty and is rendered either nondrivable or unsafe to drive.

You should be fine. I hit a MONSTER pothole somewhere in Arizona on a cross country trip bringing my MINI home. The result was a sizeable bulge in the sidewall - ended up not only getting me the 800 miles home, but did fine for another 8K miles (yeah, I'm a risk taker.)

Thanks, it makes me feel better- I just remembered that I did hit a pothole this past week. I bet that is where I got the bulge.

Thanks to everyone- it's great to have such a good forum
