...and my MINI was parked on the street in Georgetown (DC) overnight. Lightning and thunder kept me up until 1:00am, and I feel asleep hoping that the wind didn't knock a tree branch down on my car (which did happen all over the DC region last night).

I wake up in the morning, head out to my car, and hop in. I see a note on the windshield, and...uh-oh. "Please call: 301-XXX-XXXX" I get out, and walk around the back of my car...no damage. Side? No damage. Front? No...dang! Disaster! Big gouge and yellow scrapes down the bonnet behind the left front headlight! Plastic trim knocked of the bonnet...an awful b;ack eye for my black MCS. It's still driveable, and I head off for work. I call the number, and a cabbie answers. He apologizes, tells me he hit my car at 3:00am, gives some lame excuse, and gives me his cab company name, his cab number, their phone #, and says that he'll call me later.

And he does. I get a message that he's been by his insurance company already, that they'll take care of it. I talk to them, and get a case number and am told that the appraiser will be by on Monday.

Meanwhile, I stopped my MINI of Sterling (VA), and got some good body shop advice for the work to be done. I'll be talking to them on Monday.

Moral of the story, even when it's 3:00am, some people who could've shirked responsibility and made a run for it still have some morals. While I'm sorry that my little "Buster" is injured, he's repairable (and it seems to have missed the bumper and the Xenon...which may mean it's not so bad).

So...I'll be searching MCO for body shop/repair info and advice, and crossing my fingers that Buster won't be in the shop too long (since he's my only car). Wish me luck...

Wow! You are REALLY lucky that the guy was honest enough to leave his information. He could have just left without leaving a thing! It sucks that this happened, but everything will turn out all right.

Unbelieveable! Talk about a lucky break (pun intended).

Give me his company name, and the next time I'm in D.C. I'll use that cab line exclusively.

How fortunate for you. Not the accident....that the cabbie left a note. Gives one faith in humankind....

Not like my scumbag neighbor, who scraped my ex-boyfriends bumper and denied it. It was obvious from the paint color, but the local police said if there were no witnesses nothing could be done unless he admitted guilt. That's alright, I have ways to cost them money that are perfectly legal, don't involve breaking the law, and that they won't trace back to me....

Yeah...I've always felt that I have pretty good karma (and now carma?), and I'm just plain lucky that he owned up to it. It's a bummer that it happened, but it could be worse, like if the car was undriveable.

Thanks for all the kind words. From the dings in the back to the gouge up front, this is officially a city car now.

By the way, the clear bra works great for rocks, not so good for cabs. Maybe a MINI brush guard?

I think there ARE some brush guards being sold for MINIs. Can't remember who the vendor is, but perhaps it's the German outfit that advertises here on MCO?

Cheers!

Thanks Clo! I know all about Wicked Wanda, and really enjoy following her travels...

I saw little "bull guards" before, which wrap up the bumper on either side of the bonnet scoop, but they wouldn't have helped me this time...maybe I need to weld a rim all the way around the car. Then, I'll put plastic covers over the leather seats, and maybe an umbrella over the sunroof. Then I'll be comfortable going out in public!

I just saw a nice pic of Darxar's all-black MCS too. Maybe we need a club (everyone else has one )? We could meet and talk about dust, wax swirls, sun and heat, etc...

Anyway, thanks again everyone...I feel better about "the incident"...just a bummer to see, but not the end of the world!
