Okay, so here is the deal. I have had a persistant rattle from my sunroof. The dealership had my car for well in excess of 30 days total time fixing this issue.

Here is the reality check part... as compensation, MINIUSA has offered me the equivilent of 1 months payment or $400.00. I own the car outright so we are talking about $400.00. I think this is way too little in terms of compensation. What do you, my esteemed associates here on MCO, think?

For those of you suggesting a lemon law fix, here is the rub. Lemon laws apply primairily to safety/operational defects so I am likely to be SOL there.

For those of you inquiring about the final fix, the end reult was the springs were lossened that pop up the wind flaps. This creates less tension when the roof is closed, resulting the flaps not vibrating/rattling.

I look forward to the usual lively discussion...

Garth

Take the money and run. It beats being SOL. MINI did fix the problem, and I assume the damaged bumper, all under warranty. Although I understand your frustration (I had a problem which also required multiple visits to rectify), what you are expecting is just not realistic. Ask yourself, what would Ford do? GM? Charlie's Used Cars? Consider it done.

Agreed.

You should find a new dealer for service, and take the money.

What happened to you sucks...but I think that 400 bones is pretty good. Legally they probably don't have to do jack for you, other than fix the car, so it sounds like they're being fair.

Did they give you a loaner to use while your MINI was out of commision? If not, did you have to rent a car and how much did that cost?

I vote with the "take the money and run" crowd.

I think I'd be pretty POed if I trusted my car with the dealer and they wrecked it . My dad took his car back to the dealer once b/c it saw filthy dirty inside once the body shop was done with it, and I believe BMW gave him something just for that. Also they put 300 miles on the car! I'd be really mad. Like, that would ave drawn the line. I mean, that just lowered the resale value of the car. I guess $400 is Ok, but if it were me I'd try to get more. My opinion I guess.

Are you sure about that lemon law? Some states do state that if the car is getting fixed and they have it for over 30 days *in one continuous period*, that's enough to qualify.

But either way, take the money and go somewhere else.

If they provided you with a vehicle to use during the time your car was in the shop, take the money, say thank you, and go spend it on something for your MINI, (Pulley = $400) If you were on your own for transportation, you may have other legal options for additional compensation, I'm sure that $400.00 comes with a release from additional claims.

After the 2nd or 3rd visit, I was always provided a BMW loaner (especially after the tow truck thing) but in any case, I never paid for a rental. I was hoping MINIUSA would give me enough compensation to get the 16" R90's. That way, I could re-mount my run flats and save the Yoko's on my V-spokes for the track. BTW, the $400.00 is not cash, it is for accessories/upgrades through the dealer only. So in all reality that $400.00 is 'bout $225.00 in real dollars to MINIUSA. Grrrr.

Thanks for the input so far. I find when I am too close to a problem, it is better to seek advice of others... sounds like I should take the offer and wait until Bob Smith opens his MINI dealership in October...

What to do, what to do....
