I spoke to Randy yesterday. He is going to Boston to do pulley installations and offered to stop in New York if I can come up with a garage, a place for him to stay and 10 more guys who want the pulley. I'm volunteering my garage and my house for him to perform his magic. I'm on Long Island, any takers ? Step right up please.
I look forward to having all of you over, with your comfirmation please indicate your kind of beer.
Thanks.
Let's get ready to pulley !!!

MCS, blk/wht top mirrors & stripes, premium/sport/cold, soon an alta intake and hopefuly a pulley.
1 windshield, a little stomble, have not seen niether version of the italian job.

Do you guys realize that we are one of the fortunate areas in the country to have an experienced MINI shop with extensive pulley expertise?
I am, of course, talking about Helix MINIsports in Philadelphia. Give Eric a call. I'm sure he'd be more than happy to set up a pulley/dyno event.
Hell, you might even be able to get Randy to make an appearance if you schedule it right and make it a real party. Now that I'd be interested in.

Just Drive to Helix!!!! It is worth the Cheesteaks alone. My fat stomach and butt would not lie to you about that.

Seems to me that allot of Mini owners bought there cars, mod them and never drive them anywhere. Must look pretty in the driveway or the garage.

Reminds me of the stories I heard about people buying clean cadillacs that did not run back in 80's

First of all you hate Long Island for the traffic and secondly you would be late and miss the pulley party

Drive to Helix like vdubdoug and morales suggest - it's worth it to see Eric's cool MCS with the big brake kit...and the Yard's Brewery next door

I'm telling you. We need to arrange to get Randy for a day down at the Helix shop. It's the best of both worlds.

I didn't plan on coming to NY specifically because Helix already is close enough to service the area.

The customer asked really nice though, and it is a bit of a distance to Philly from NYC.

You guys are lucky to have Helix in the area though

If I do come to NY, it will be after the Phoenix install sometime in November since my wife is due September 1 with our fourth (and finally a girl!).

Let me know if you have any other questions.

And there you go my friends, the man himself has spoken. I do appreciate and enjoy your feedback and even more so the whackiness of it all. I did not know about the performance shop in philly. Randy sounds like a good guy and was kind enough to offer extending his tour to give us our fix. I understand the brake in guys, I did wait until my car hit 1250 miles before bring in it to red line. Let's see, 1248, 1249, oh the party is about to begin. 1250, downshift to 3rd and step on it. It's been pure joy ever since then. Looking forward to perhaps get the pulley party to become a reality.

this forum is frequented by motorheads who may not fully appreciate that guys lke Helix are trying to make a living out of this work. And Randy as well.

I would like to suggest the travelling Randy show concentrate on the rest of the country, outside a 200 mle radius from Philadelphia. That should serve everyone.

Recall that Helix was the first shop to have and develop the pulley, they do on site dyno testing and are in business, paying rent, paying off tools, liability insurance, overhead, etc. and they are very nice guys.

I second or, er, third that! What if we didn't have HELIX? Then obviously a pulley party like this would be necessary. But since we do, I hate to think of a day where Helix might not exist and there would be NO ONE within a several day drive (Randy in CO) that I would trust to work on MINI. If you're talking about ordering parts, fine, get 'em from whoever gives you the best deal if you want. But installations, c'mon guys - are you really saying that NYC or long island is too far from Philly? Motoring in a MINI?

why is everyone jumping down randy's throat. he said that someone asked him to come to NY. and i believe that person also said they didnt know about helix. randy isn't trying to steal their business, as he has said.
i also like the idea of a get together incorporated with installation of performance parts... i think that has great potential. i wouldn't go down to helix unless they did something like that. that is why i am taking randy up on his trip to boston.

No one is jumping down his throat, it's just a matter of principle, when I asked randy about a
NE or Mid Atlantic Install he said no. All due to the fact that Helix was close enough to Northern Connecticut, never mind the fact it was an 8 hour round trip.

So I went to Helix, came away extremely satisfied and now I will let no one but Eric at Helix work on my car when it comes to mods. I'm also a firm believer in "buy local" plus, I know if something goes wrong with my car after a particular mod, I can take it back to Helix for a fix, try getting Randy to fly back to NY or Boston.

X2

I'm glad to see helix has such great following, I can appreciate that. I run a bicycle pro shop and mail order puts a dent on my earnings. I mentioned before that I did not know of the existance of helix, I'm new at mcs ownership and this forum. Out of respect for helix I will cancel my request for a pulley installation party at my house. I guess if people still want to get together we can figure that out. I'm sorry about all the confusion, I'll take all blame for this mess. I will probably look to take a drive out to helix to have my pulley installed over the winter whem my busy season ends. Thanx for pointing out the existance of a great performance shop on the east coast.
Now where the heck are they ?
