Ok got the 96 Cooper today, question on fuel tanks
Guy was kind of shady. Tried to get it last night, we had agreed on £500 which included the car plus a extra set of steel wheels and winter tires. Well, when it came time to sign the paperwork over, he didnt want to give me the extra wheels saying that "he was losing his a$$ over this deal". Saying he paid 800 for it, and was trying to recoup his losses. I told him I didnt agree with it, that we had a deal, and I thought it was shady of him to go back onthe agreement. I offered him less money and he could keep the wheels, but he didnt want to agree to my offer (£450). I ended up calling his integrity out politely, as hes retired air force, and its one of the three core values, service before self, integrity first, and excellence in all we do. So he finally relented. Met him this morning and got the deal done. Now I took a second look at the car, and it is a MPi. So my question is, the tank has the fuel pump in it, and its a return system. So am I better off taking both tanks to a welder, and letting them cut and weld, or is there an aftermarket solution?

What do you want to do?

Replace the pump & get an operable 96? If so, I'd look for one at a wrecking yard, it'd be less than welding ...If the pump is bad, I can't imagne it wouldn't be removable through the hole for the guage sending unit
Check the shop manuals or online tech help.
I dont know how or where I would put the fuel tank from the cooper, so I'll have to somehow modify the pickup tank to accept the accessories from the cooper tank. The goal is to have a 78 pickup body with full 96 Cooper running gear.
I'm a Yank and although my PC dosen't have the symbol required for English Pounds, I must say, 500 is about a bit over 1K here, and I believe any Mini Lovin Yank would be thrilled to have such a chance to aquire one for so little money.
That being said, I'd love to see this Pick Up conversion once it's complete. Sounds like a killer idea.
