'57 Bel Air fins onto an R53?

Is it just me, or does anyone else think this might look interesting if well done?

Just the shape, mind you. Not all the chrome, and not replacing the bumper or making it chrome. Just the fins. Shooting straight out from the belt line, and then cutting down. '57 more so than, say, the '55. Would need reshaped lights, to go down lower than they are now, of course.

I think about it all the time. Something tells me it'd look pretty sweet....

I don't see it (especially with MINI's tail lights) - I guess I lack the imagination.

Well, I don't mean to literally transplant a set. Sculpt something new but along those lines....

Something like that.

Would need to be black. And sinister. And snarl.

I think it looks a little strange as pictured on the MINI. On the Chevy, the fin tips weren't the rearmost part of the car - the rear bumper projections actually stick out further. On the photoshopped MINI, the fins form a rear "overhang" that somehow doesn't look right.

Back might need some ribs, actually.

So, maybe it's more '57 Nomad than Bel Air....

Nah it won't look right. The overall shape of the car would have to change to encompass those aesthetics, really..

Sparked my curiosity though, I had to see..

I think the ribs could work with a black/tan two-tone side paint job... ribs down the roof... smooth out the boot, move the plate to the lower bumper and run some ribs on the boot as well!

I've seen a Riley Elf (I think) which was a facier version of the classic Mini that had and extention off the back-very subtle but kind of along the lines you are thinking. I'll try to find an image.

Here we are:

Aye. That's more '55 than '57, but yeah. And on an R53....

About the only good thing about seeing fins on a MINI is that you could use them to gouge your eyes out afterwards.

Somebody's smoking some good **** and not sharing... But if you think thats gonna look good, you need a psychological evaluation.

Wow, some really abusive comments. No imaginations? Being from the era and having driven a 57 post for a couple of years, I think it would work.

The photo-chop was not bad, I think a little longer on the fins and a bit thinner like on the Sunbeam Tiger might work. I do like the idea of the chrome boot accents ala, the Nomad look.

Anyone want to sacrifice their R53, I know of a good custom shop or two in my area. Foose might even take it on for the right price.

Hmmm, not so sure about the fins (espaecially after that p-shop), but I have thought that doing a '56 Nomad style paint treatment might be kinda cool - with the '56 'Mad side trim airbrushed on. And, yeah, airbrush the ribs across the rear portion of the roof.

At the least, I think the '57 Sierra Gold (body)/Adobe Beige (roof & mirrors)paint scheme would look good on a MINI.
