COOPER PULLEY ON COOPER S??

I seen in a website Webb Motorsport and Craven i think that has weight comparisons of crank pulleys between aftermarket and oem MCS: pre 04 (7lbs), post 04 (5lbs), AND "Cooper pulleys (3lbs)" or smething like that not sure if thats right.
BUT my question is the crank pulley on the Cooper fit the Cooper S?? Is it possible?

The crank pulleys should be the same - can't imagine how the Cooper's could weigh that much less. The only differences I know of are the internals and the water pump. That, and were it the case, there would have been a run on Cooper crank pullies by now.

Well...on an S...you have that huge inner rubber bushing. On my Cooper...its just a str8 metal unit. And it seems smaller overall (not diameter).

No but if it was, why? What do you hope to gain by removing 2 lbs (Not even close to 2 lbs lighter, maybe 8-10 oz) of rotational mass from the engine. Let me put it this way, people install lightweight flywheels that weigh 15 lbs less and all that really does is make it a little easier to rev (And stall) the engine.

Removing one pound from something that rotates is the same as removing 10 pounds from the weight of the car. Lighter = Faster - That's why!

It's not quite that simple. That has a lot more to do with wheels than crank. With a wheel you're talking about a pound of weight, set out 8-9 inches from the hub (Depending on wheel size). The relative diameter of the crank pulley is so small, and the weight so close in, an 8-10 ounce difference is weight is negligible to the engines ability to rev.

Think of attaching a 1 lb weight to the tip of a ceiling fan's blade. The fan is OBVIOUSLY going to be way off balance, spinning wildly (Please DON'T try this). It might even fall out of the ceiling. Now take the same 1 lb weight and attach it to the interior blade attachment point (The little brass "Arm" that sticks out of the motor hub), it might wobble a bit, but not even close to the previous example.

The placement of said weight in relation to the point of rotation is a lot more important than any minimal weight reduction.

Another consideration is one of durability. MINI made the crank pulley the weight it is for a reason (Harmonic balancing, etc). Hell they even lightened it a little for MY2005 (presumably because they found the weight excessive). Don't you think they would have just used the "Lighter" Cooper Pulley if it showed any performance benefit?
