You know that soft kinda ding sound you hear just before the pilot says you can get up from your seat? I hear a sound like that occasionally on my '02 MCS. When it happens I notice the computer display, which I leave on the temperature, flashes on and off for about 5 seconds. Does anyone else get this? Do you know what it means? I can't find any reference in my manual.
Yep - that's the "roads might be freezing" warning chime... I don't know if the actual temp for this varies by year model, but on my 2006 it sounds at 37F.
Just reminding you to be careful out there, as bridges, etc. could be slick...

yeah 37F or you can take it to the dealer and have the exact temp changed, I leave mine on the current speed display so the first one or two of the year give me a good "uh-oh the guages just went" momment that makes me wish I had the computer to change it
'Tis the season for me too. In my case I live on a ridge, so when I hit the bottom of the hill (cold air settles) in the morning it dinged.
Really annoying considering it's a drought.
Being in Canada, mine chimes at 3C. But only if the temperature is dropping or when I start my car.
It's really weird because my daily commute involves going up and over hills so the currently, our local temperatures are sitting right around 3C so depending if you're going in or out of shadowed areas, or up and down hills, the chime goes off multiple times on the same trip.
good thing i came across this, I was meaning to post a thread asking this very same question. So is it just letting you know its cold, or is it telling you that the car needs to be warmed up and driven a certain way until it gets a chance to heat up? My mother used to have an Echo that had a light that would come on, and the car would keep high rpms by shifting later than usual when it was cold in order to build up engine heat or somethin? not really sure why it did that.
