possible event?

okay, i'm new to the boards, hell, i still don't have the mini yet. i don't know if there's some way that we have to use to suggest events, but this is more for those that have their cars modded, or just want to see what their car is putting down.

i know a shop here in charlotte that has an in-ground dyno. maybe we could get a dyno day going?

if this gets a positive response, i'll go over there and find out if we can get a group discount. i think the current price is 40-50 dollars for 3 pulls

That's funny b/c, after the track day today, I wondered what kind of "real" numbers these things make. My Mustang club used to do Dyno days all the time. Do you need a different kind of dyno for FWD cars? I know you do for the Subies and other AWD cars...

Anyway, let's do it, could be real fun to see the different numbers we throw down. One thing, though, I drive at redline, a LOT, like all day on the track, today, except for my 3rd gear debacle. Dyno days are not for the faint of heart and the owner assumes all risk. I think this was more an issue with the guys running shots of "naws" ;-) ?

a dyno day is very simple. we all meet up somewhere (after i check with the shop, assuming it's still there) and we drive over to the shop. we all sign in, and then we dyno, in the order we signed up.

we can use any sort of dyno for the mini, since the rollers go either way. i've seen on a trailer dyno people would back up the FWD cars, and drive the RWD cars straight up.

the dyno at the shop is only a 2 wheel roller, so any AWD cars that wanna come with us are SOL. i know, i tried to dyno the wrx. no joy.

i will ask the shop tomorrow (after i get the mini) about if we could do a dyno day, or if the other shop (both are either on, or just off south blvd) if they'll have the trailer dyno.

simply to get together, and hang out, and see what our cars are pushing.

it's more for the people who've got modded-minis, but all of us can use it. i know i want to see baseline what mine is actually pushing

i found a shop that on the website, it looks as though they have no events planned whatsoever. it's called pro-dyno. that's the address. i'm going to call them tomorrow, to find out if they can do a group rate. http://www.pro-dyno.net

If it's who I'm thinking ProDyno is a guy named Dan, he's cool. Has a portable dyno on a trailer, he does tuning as well as Dyno pulls, and has fair prices.

I am in but have to wait to get it tuned at grassroots garage. They have to download send to england and then tune the car. 16% M-7 Pully, M-7/DDM Cold air box, Alta header, borla race exhaust and a little extra chrome for speed!

Be sure to get the waivers signed on this one. Dynos are an "at risk" event. I have known cars to bust down on the machine. If the shop is reputable they will make sure that you sign a form to cover thier shop but not our club. This is just an FYI but be sure to cover all grounds before you make this an M2C2.org event.

alright...after calling around a number of shops, i found one that will be available for our use. it's called precision engine, and it's off Woodlawn Ave (exit 23 off I85) and he said that it's $50 for 3 pulls, and we drive it. i didn't get to ask him about group rates, though. they've got a website as well.

www.hpdyno.net

i'm going to be going up there on saturday to check it out. will keep y'all posted

edit: website doesn't work. if anyone wants to find out about them, the # is 704-827-3944

Agreed. I have seen many cars get on the Dyno and KABOOM because they were not monitered properly. I actually had it happen to my best friends Cobra because the shop only monitered one O2 sensor and did not know what was going on with the engine. I have had my M3 and Z3 both on the dyno, but it is not something I would do unless I was tuning. I'll be more than happy to go watch.

a few years ago we did a dyno day up in Hickory. afterwards we all went out to eat up there. anyone remember that? Fun but loud. It was a floor mounted dyno with the roller in by the door. Us front wheelers make lots of noise and exhaust in that kind of set-up.
