(Considering) Used Big Brake Kit

Dear enthusiasts,

I would like to get your take on buying a used BBK Wilwood with according to the owner 4000 miles.
The kit is composed by:

"Two front rotors, two front four piston calipers, two front braided steel brake lines, two rear oversize rotors that work with the OEM calipers (there is a metal bracket that moves the OEM caliper to fit the new rotor). Two sets of brake pads in almost new condition - one set for the street and one higher temperature set for the track".

I have got different reponses when asking about buying a used kit. Some indicated that buying a used kit might not worth the risk. Others have said that for the right money (can someone give me an idea of price $$???) it would be OK.

Your feedback will be highly appreciated.

Some more questions to ask...

What size is the front rotor?

What model are the calipers?

Any track days?

What compound are the pad?

Are the rotors slotted or drilled or both?

From the way the description reads I'm gonna guess this is a TCE 11.75 kit. Probably has BP 10 and BP 20 pads. You'll want to add the rear SS lines, TCE will have those. With only 4K miles I'd peg the value at about 750-800 for the fronts, toss in an extra 75-100 for the rears. All the rotors should also come with hats too. Only other thing I'd ask about is the build date of the sellers Mini, if is late 06 the hats would need to be clearanced to accommodate the 14mm lug bolts. At the right price this is a great kit used.

OK, so where are the moderators, or has NAM become un-moderated? First we had the M7 Coilovers thread here, and now we have the which BBK? There are forums specifically for suspension and for brakes. What gives that we have to wade through these OT threads on the Performance (read: engine and transmission mods) thread?
Sorry, just a little peessy tonight.

Gnatster,
This is a 13.1 x 1.1 kit (front and rear).
I spoken with Todd at TCE and he pretty much told me to go ahead with the purchase. He said this set up goes for around $2,100 (new).
So I am getting them as an early xmas present .
Thanks for the help.

I purchased my BBK from a fellow NAMer and it had basically the same miles as the one you are interested in. Proper installation is a must.
Todd is a great help.

Happy breaking!
