Get your JCW Sound Kit while they last!!

The JCW sound kits are on sale for the month of November. Dealer cost on this item is now below $500. Meaning you should be able to purchase it for less than $600. Now that my kit is securely waiting at the dealership for installation I thought I would throw a heads up out to everyone else. When I ordered mine there were only ten 04 and older kits left in the country. The kit includes:

-catback exhaust
-airbox with high flow filters and extra tube connected into the firewall/windshield vent area
-reprogrammed ecu
-exterior badges, serial numbered engine plate, and certificate of authenticity

I think for the price now this is really hard to beat. So who else is going to join the JCW Cooper club?

I hope all the JCW stuff is going on sale because I want to get me some carbon fiber bits. Just got the aero kit for $625.

I had a chance to get the old JCW MC kit (the one that had the reworked head, exhaust, and alot of other good stuff) for dealer cost but I was still in college and didn't have any money

Yeah I had a 2002 DS/B MCS (Helix 15% pulley, intake, Borla Street exhaust, BIG rally lights) then a 2005 HB/W that stayed stock except for the wheels. I now drive a PW/B 2006 Cooper, and I love it.

If that price is correct, then that's a steal and well worth the money spent in my eyes.

HAHA NO WAY!? My 03 was DS/W and stock, my 06 was HB/W Helix 15%, intake, exhaust, etc.. too weird.

Yes that price is accurate, dealer cost is $450ish. I think its definitely worth it. Too bad I also bought a Racing Dynamics exhaust last week. Anyone want a Racing Dynamics (rebadged Remus) for an 02-03 Cooper?

This is a great deal on what is reported to be a good sounding kit, with the benefits of stainless construction and a little JCW cachet.
I contacted Classic MINI about one of their Sound Kits, and they will not ship to Canada.
Local dealer quoted $1,350 a couple of months back when I enquired. That was based on a Germany part order, and labour to install was extra at approx. $200.

theroretically every us dealer can get it, whether they play dumb or not is another question. Roadshow in TN is selling for 625, some other are upwards of 750, but get them to match roadshows if they will. I orderered mine a week ago yesterday, and had it picked up at morristown mini monday. I payed 625. Mansize, yeah, 200 to have them install it, and then another 150 for them to do the ecu flash. utter bullocks i know, but thats what my dealer wanted. I could install my self, but obviously needed them to do the ecu part. I dont think so. Beecher

I have the 04 and later JCW sound kit, bought it for $1350 installed. I had heard the kit originally included the JCW head. Can that still be fitted to a MC?

I got it at Roadshow in TN. All the dealers should be giving it for 50% off as the rumor is that MiniUSA is going to discontinue the kit after this month.

If I order the Aero Kit at this low Price, What happens if I am in a bump-up. Will the replacement parts be available?

Here are a couple of threads on upgrading the Cooper head:

I think it is the full kit that is being discontinued. Individual parts of the kit will still be available.

My 2006 PW/B Cooper with the JCW sound kit will be off lease in April. I've loved it, if anybody here is somewhat interested drop me a line (moneill@minimainline.com) we can arrange to have you buy it from me otherwise it will most likely go back to MINI (not the dealer, but to MINI never never land)

I inquired about the rumored discount on the SK for a 2004. The dealer indicated the price including installation had actually gone up! Can i attribute this to the rumored discontinuance of this kit? Here in SoCal, he is quoting an installed price of approx $1600 installed. Any other insight about dealers in the area that are selling for less?

Well, as far as i know, the sale only went to the end of november, but i also hear that most cali dealers wernt honouring the sale price. Any of the dealers websites that list them all say for local pickup/delivery only, and wont ship it. It is a rather large box it arrives in, you can check my gallery for a pic of the box beside my car, so i can see why they wont ship it. ! know it will cost you between 100 and 150 to have the ecu flash done, and then another hour and a half or maybe 2 (official instructions say 1 hour, but trying finding a dealer that will only charge you the one hour). So that could bring you anther 300 to 500 on install. Morristown mini in NJ does sell the kit for 880, which isnt a bad price, see if you can get a local (or even if you have to drive a couple hours) to match that price.

Hope i helped

Thanks very much. I will check out a couple of dealers here in SoCal. I want to insure I am not being taken advantage of as this part may become more difficult to obtain.

FYI, there were actually two JCW kits for 1st Gen Coopers:
  • JCW Tuning Kit (a.k.a. JCW TK)
    • More expensive (~$2650 when released)
    • Includes new cylinder head, exhaust, new air filter & ECU tune
    • Adds ~11hp
    • Only produced from April 2004 through July 2004 (R53 JCW Kit ended up taking precedence)
    • VERY RARE - snap one up if you find it!
    • MF Announcement
    • MF Review
  • JCW Sound Kit (a.k.a. JCW SK)
    • Cheaper (~$1100 when released)
    • Does not include new cylinder head, but has intake, exhaust, & ECU tune
    • Adds ~3hp (hey, it's mostly for the sound, remember?)
    • Produced roughly from February 2005 onwards
    • MF Announcement
    • MF Review
Don't go getting them confused, now.

If the kit itself is dated 2004 and includes the cylinder head, congratulations, it's a very rare and special kit indeed. I've yet to see an R50 Cooper with the JCW TK in person, and I'd really like to!

yeah, that would be killer. I will probably be putting a jcw s head on my car this winter. And next year i will probably big valve it, but im going nuts for jcw parts right now, ive always liked them, but in the last couple weeks i have ordered half the jcw catalog (not kidding either, dash, sk, boot handle, spoiler, car cover), and i have to get the mirrorcaps, and alcantara interior parts and strut bar yet. I was going to order the bbk, but want to see what the new one is going to be, but will probably get the current one to clear my rims. I think i can blame my friend who used to rally in england and was friends with john cooper hisself for my obsession with jcw. Beecher

Hmm - don't know if I'd recommend a JCW S head on a Cooper... make sure you research it thoroughly so that you don't blow anything up!
