MCSa-rough idle??
For those of you with 2007 Cooper S automatics (and I suppose, manual trans as well), have you noted a surging of the engine at stop (in gear) say, at stop lights, etc. Mine seems to surge from 600-800rpm. Is anyone else feeling this?

mine has a rough idle from time to time yeah. sometimes when i crank it, it will be rev'ed higher like in b/t 1 and 2k instead of right below 1k like always. not quite sure... trying to get an appointment to get it fixed, a squeak from the engine, sunroof seal and more :( anyone else have this or any way to reduce or fix it?
yup i have that problem. and it only occurs when my engine is warmed up, after driving about 30 minutes. doesn't happen every time i drive, but often enough. i've taken it to the dealer, and they haven't been able to find anything wrong with them car.
Funny, I noticed this for the first time on Sunday, after a long drive and right after I had filled my tank. NO CELs, but a definite rough idle.
It almost felt like the engine was hunting and the trans was hunting for the correct gear between 2 and 3 as I slowed down to crawl and not a full stop.
It will be interesting to see if my dealer can find anything after I take my next out of state trip with the MINI.

I thought maybe this was some quirk of the transmission in automatic sport mode? Maybe since the transmission controller doesn't know you're attempting to come a complete stop, it's trying to keep the revs up by dropping to 1st?
Is there a way to observe what gear you're in when in automatic mode?

Standard tranny here. I get a 500-1000 rpm surging if I use the clutch to hold position when stopped on a hill. Easing the clutch out just enough to keep from rolling back sends the MINI into this little engine dance. I know it is a fast idle cam engaging-disengaging as needed. Not really worried about it.
I get a bit of a rough idle when I first start it up in the morning. It's 7 miles to where I work, and by the time I get there, it's pretty well smoothed out.
