Nice nice job Ryan. Looks sweet!

Questions: Did the painters comment on the process of painting over the chrome? Was it difficult? Is there any question of durability?

it looks like the car has 2 black eyes to me.

Now you just need to remove the chrome line around the lower edge of the windows

They sandblasted the chrome off and then painted with a special paint that had plasticizers in it to allow some flex. Matches the look of the black plastic in the aero grilles. Will be no more, no less durable than the stock rings.

The beltline is actually stainless steel, not chrome. So painting that becomes much, much more difficult. My painter actually suggested a vinyl overlay instead. The handles are plastic and could be painted if disassembled.

Now I've got to find a way to get inside these puppies and black out the chrome in there, too!

I think it looks good- very nicely done-unique.
What about a carbon fiber hood scoop? An aggressive look to it.
The black rings are complemented by the black roof, mirrors and grille.
Are your tail lights tinted? A logical thing

the black is too perfect.
i'm glad you didn't go the black chrome route.
i think cooperspeed is right, now you need the matching scoop!

Ya, they painted it to match the look of the plastic trim, not the roof.

Yes, my taillights and side markers are tinted.

And for those that think Zeek has two black eyes, it's because he's a playground bully. Got to be a fighter to get in a fight.

Sorry Ryan to be your first post in the thread who doesn't like it. The grills are fine, but the headlight trim rings painted put the look too far over the top.

I like it. Not everybody will. That's not important. What IS important is the fact that you made it YOUR unique car. I'm tired of seeing box stock MINIs. I think a satin black hood scoop will finish it off. Good luck,

Davbret - What kind of wheels are those, and may I ask where you got them and for how much?
Also, is that a special finish on them?
I'll be picking up my DS MCS in August, and would like some dark colored wheels to match.

Thanks!

Oh hell yeah. I am going into my body shop this week to get my car looked at.

Davbret - I got an idea for the trim under the windows. Just go toa sign shop and have them put vinyl on it...thats is what I am going to do...eventually...

That's exactly what my body shop guy suggested as it's stainless steel and just doesn't paint worth a damn. Said you could look at it wrong and the paint would come off it.

hey davbret - beautiful pics! looks very nice.

i've got the mesh grill parts to replace on the front grill but from what I understand they're not a direct fit because of not having the aero kit front bumper. i'm wondering what they did to get those pieces on there.....any thoughts?

Here's a link for the Aero Grill how-to:

http://www.r53w11.com/aerogrilles.htm

BTW, r53w11.com is most likely going to be pushing up daisies unless someone takes over the site, as the current owner just sold the beloved MCS. BOO HOO!! His site has very helful for many people!!

Be sure to try it temporarily with some electrical tape to see what it looks like before you spent the time with vinyl--the car looses a lot of definition and it changes the look of the car, IMO. I'm not a fan of chrome, but decided against it after I looked at it in person.

Davbret,
In seeing your MINI again, I still have to agree with myself...

That's one hot MINI! There's just something nice how the Black grills accent the black rings and it is all brought together with the black roof and tinted windows! To say nothing about those Wheels!!!!

You need to update your signature photo for us!!!

Fine Job!
