2008 Canadian Pricing
2008 Canadian Pricing
Anyone have any insight on likely 2008 pricing? I've heard that prices will be maintained in the US but I also heard that BMW is offering 10% cash rebates to their Canadian customers on 2007 models. I'm trying to decide to order a 2007 for December delivery or wait a couple months and get a 2008 in February. I don't expect any major vehicle changes in 2008, this is strictly a price thing. I've got a reliable vehicle now that I will be keeping and letting my son use so I have no urgency to pull the plug.

This month's issue of Road n Track has a test comparison of an MCS vs Volvo C30. If you look at the specs at the end of the article, you'll find that the options they spec'd out is just short of the Canadian car with all the Canadian standard equipment (Xenons, Sport suspension, etc). The price is within a couple thou of the Canadian base model MSRP. So take the 10% off and it looks pretty close.
I hate it when we're not really comparing exact same things because it makes for consumer confusion....which is probably what most car manufacturers are trying to achieve.
...but MINI drivers are smarter than that
....I think.

With our loonie $ soaring high at 1.088 US$ / 1 C$, it's time for BMW to bring the pricing realistically. The Canadians deserve it.
Actually the BMW brand is the best selling in Canada among MBenz, Audi, & Lexus (no offense to Infiniti & Acura but they still lack the same level of branding recognition). Lexus tops the US. For this reason BMW should appreciate this enthusiasm & loyalty by lowering their pricing and that includes the Mini. Just my 2 cents.

Canadian Pricing
I've done a little research since my original post. Here is my non-scientific thoughts on waht might happen.
Since dropping prices dramatically has an impact on every used Mini out there and wrecks havoc on the residual value of every leased Mini, I think that Mini will resist the urge to drop prices across the board. Instead they may address the price gap by including additional no cost options on the vehicles sold in Canada and offer low rate financing. This is what BMW has done and I see that Honda has just announced low rate financing in Canada. I can't remember Honda ever doing that before.
Even though I am currently in the market for a Mini, I'm not sure that I will wait until they drop their prices to US levels. I want to drive.

The pricing for 2007 was 26k CAD vs 19k USD (regular Mini)
I doubt they'll lower the Canadian model by 7k, but they'll probably give a thousand or two. The Eco-Auto program from the Canadian gov gives another thousand.
For a difference of only 2-3-4 thousand very few people will get through the hassle of buying it in the US
Although I wish the pricing was on par, I doubt it will happen.
I won't have much of a choice anyway, the closest US Mini dealer is about 600km away or so.

Do you happen to know if the Cooper 'S' qualifies for the Eco-Auto rebate? It isn't specifically mentioned on the web site, but I thought I might try applying anyway. On the other hand, I wouldn't want to go through the hassle just to be turned down.

Not sure how reliable that info is
The mini Cooper is now 24 800 (1 100 less than MY2007) but the xenon headlights, multifunction steering wheel with cruise control and metallic paint are no longer included and become optional.
Looks like they didn't adjust the price for the strenght of the Canadian dollar.

I believe the OBC is already on your car. But I think the dealer will charge you about $100 to activate it.
I went to a Mini Dealer and surprisingly they had the 2008 pricing list, and even gave me a copy.
I apologize but I only have the pricing for the regular Cooper (not the S, Classic or convertible).
In essence, the price went down to 24 800 (instead of 25 900 for 2007) but Metallic paint (490$) and bi-xenon (690$) are no longer included. Consequently, there has been no price reduction even though the Canadian dollar is stronger than last year.
Here's what I got
24 800
