Opinion on these wheels for a 07 MCSa

I was doing some browsing and would like an opinion on a couple wheel types which are available at Edge Racing.

These are 16x7 and the primary use will be for my winter tires. My plan is to purchase a bundle at one of the vendors. Looking for best fit and style

Tire plan is to go with a 205/50/16 but will consider 215/55/16 on my 07 MCSa which is not lowered.

This is the Enkei RZ 5 with et 42 4x100 16x7

This is the Sportmax 039 et40 4x100 16x7

Comments, which wheel do you think looks good and would stand up to some winter driving.

Thanks to all.

1. be sure that which ever you choose works with your set up. do you have the new TPMS?

2. the enkeis for the MINI fitment wont have as much lip as in that photo due to a different offset.

3. i personally like those sportmax's over the enkei's

Thanks, no TPMS, I have a May build MCSa , so normal MINI pressure monitoring (or old style monitoring).

The sportmax's are matt gunmetal which goes with the DS/W well. Looking for more input.

Thanks Glnr13... For both posts. I like my paddle shifters just fine.

I have the SportMax on my MCS in 17". The gunmetal would look great on a DS.

Thanks, noticed you have the Falken 912s, how do you like the feel of them? Have you had a chance to see how they do in 'snow'?

Not as of yet... but that's why I went with all season tires. Even in the southwest we get enough snow.

I'd go with the Sportmax, they have a Work Emotion look to them. As for the Enkei's, not my cup of tea...

I say sportmax, pretty nice design.....REALLY don't like the enkeis for our car, they're a bit too blocky and busy

Wake, Rally, Scorch, Glnr13, Thanks for the replies. I had sportmax wheels flagged as my #1. Not 100% sure but getting closer.

Now for tires, the Falken 912s or winter performance Hankook Icebear W300s. If we have a few like we did last year and the long cold snap, the W300s will be a nice set to have on the 16s.

Thoughts, anyone have the Hankook tires mounted for a winter season?

Thanks again for the current thoughts.

Any more commentary?

I am leaning to the Sportmax with the Hankook winter tires. I figure in the late spring I will put a set of UHP on the 17 Webbies for my Summer fun.

Thanks,

Thanks,
I can't comment on winter tires as down here in Miami, FL we can get away with using UHP summer tires all year round.

Again, definitely the SportMax, Work Emotions is a good look

As for the Enkei's, no offense but I don't even know what you're thinking

Your right, re: the Enkei's (not thinking at all). Gotta get online and shop around, but it looks like Edge Racing will get an order today.

Thanks for all the input.

not to be rude but, neither of these wheels meet that criteria, imho. Then again, you're just shopping for winter wheels. So, the black Sportmax's fit that category.

Personally, I'd rock the webspokes in the Winter and get something aftermarket for the Summer.....or get some used bridge spokes for the winter.

A follow up on wheels/tires

Fyi to all who helped.

I placed my order for the Sportmax 039 in matt gunmetal in 16x7 et 40 with the Falken 912s in 205/50R16 with aluminum hub centric rings.

Oscar at Edge Racing was very helpful, answered questions and was easy to work with.

Only problem is they are out of the gunmetal color in the 039s, so I have to wait about a week for them to come from Sportmax to Edge, just hope it does not do the Halloween Snow dump on our area like it has for the past few end of October. Guess I will steal my wifes Jeep.

Not the most expensive wheels, but for my usage a good wheel. Now I save up for my CAI and TURBO-BACK which I hope to have on before AMVIV in the Spring.

Uh oh.

You know, those Sportmax wheels look an awful lot like Palo Uber wheels. I wonder if they are also "world class" and designed by a fake guy!

Yes, they do, thanks for the ref. pictures.

I did some browsing on the Work Emotions pages on the site in Japan, my Japanese is not what it used to be thus some of the descriptions were a little unclear, but the pictures were great in the flash based tools.

eeterp, if you get a MINI let me know when you put on a set of the Work Emotions, I would like to see them on a car.

Wake, thanks, I agree.

Update

My wheels from Edge came last evening. I took a couple pictures before I mount them up on my R56.

No Palo badges anywhere, so I think they are the real thing.

When I get them on the MINI I will put some pictures over in the show us your wheels thread.

I decided to wait for my tax returns. So, it'll be a few months :(

I cruise all of the wheel threads and I can't make up my mind. I flip flop between getting a light weight, 1-piece wheel (e.g. Kosei K1's) or a 2 or 3-piece with a nice polished lip (e.g. BB$ LM)...maybe I'll get both

Hope to see pics of your MINI with it's new shoes on soon

PS - I'll be heading out your way (Denver) for thanksgiving. Any chance the ski slopes will be open?

Jeremy, Last I heard we had some of the slopes open, but it has been warm this week. I suspect by T-Day, they will all be open and busy. Have fun.

Sportmax 039 16x7 et 40 matt gunmetal

Follow up on the thread, here is a quick picture of my R56 with the Sportmax wheels and Falken 205/50/16 912s.

Tires came mounted, balanced and pressure set at 40 in all 4 wheels from Edge Racing. I'm a happy customer!

Wow, what a nice ride, a much better ride than the Dunlop Run-flats on my 17 inch webbies.
