hello every one, I'm in the market for a carbon fiber hood and was wondering where the best place would be to order one from. The only place I can find them is ebay and the descriptions on most all of them look a little shady, what with them all having the exact same low res picture of a vis hood on a light blue mini. If any body could direct me to a better place to get one that would be great
I bought mine from ViS directly. It was $674 shipped. I remember when it was $450 and should have bought it back then. NOW, is not the time to buy CF parts. ViS is charging $900 for the hood and trunks right now. Good luck!
Nobody made a "NON-S" Cooper hood in CF did they? Just in case people want that sleeper look....
No...no they dont...if you look at my car in the above photo (one without the grill) that Tuls posted....Im actually JustaCooper. I had to go the S route. I like it...BTW, that's the only S part that will be going on my car. Ok...that and some engine bits..
I did not see any additional hardware to secure the hood.. is it not necessary? When I was shopping CF hood for another car the vendors "recommended" external securing (think of the pole with cotter pin) because where the hood latch connected to the hood was a weekness.

Minis have 2 latches..one on each side so I don't think pins would be necessary

ON the one we installed a few weeks ago the latches were in the wrong spot on the hood. Nothing that a little cutting, spacing and welding didn't take care of. Just be sure that you know what you are getting into these hoods are a BUNCH of work.

Are you sure it was a genuine VIS hood? it sounds to me like you got a non genuine one
i got a genuine VIS hood and the installation/fitment was anything but straight forward. it still isn't as nice as i would like. i'll have it further tweaked next time i'm at the body shop for annual rock chip repair.
I never did say it was a VIS. I bet that the VIS would have been better quality. This one had some holes that were drilled and some that were not.
If you are doing this for weight savings (and are going to paint it,) I would say keep the stock parts and loose the weight somewhere else.
my VIS hood had some holes drilled, others not drilled. i painted most of my hood, but left a couple of cf "viper" stripes. it is tough to take weight out of the front end of a MINI. i don't regret my purchase, i just wish that it fit a little better as provided. it made me pause before buying the cf boot, which must be even more difficult to install correctly.......
