Why doesn't MINI give us more Non-Metallic Colours?
MINI isn't alone on this and I'm not sure why.
I like the BRG and the two blues okay, but IMO, they'd be much better in a non-metallic finish.
Am I in the minority on this? Do others even notice the difference? Is MINI responding to the majority of buyers that prefer metallic paint? Or is it a profit thing because they can charge $450 for metallic paint?
For a company all about options and customization, I find the paint choices lacking.
I remember GM and others in the 80s would advertise "metallic paint" as if it were some desirable luxury item. Is it still?

what colors would you want in non metallic? Im not against the idea but i cant really think of a color that i would want in non metallic... Maybe a nice bright orange but that would also look great in metallic.
Ghosthound,
I'd want a dark green, a medium green (like Porsche's Viper Green in the early 70s) and a medium blue. The metallic flecks water the colour down in my eyes. Basically any colour outside of silver and possibly grey I'd prefer in a non-metallic.

They should atleast quit limiting colors between models. MCS folks should be able to get oxy blue and nf red and MC folks dark grey.
Metallics must be a pretty good profit for them else they'd offer flat black still. There's no other logical reason besides $$.

Why? Pure profit. There is maybe (maybe!) $20 worth of extra materials in a metallic paint job. And consumers have shown that we are willing to pay $450 extra for it, so why not?
Consider this: A CR MINI with silver roof and mirrors vs an all Hyper Blue. Which one costs more to paint? The CR/S by a large margin. Red is the most expensive solid color, plus the additional time to re-mask for 2-tone (not to mention that the second color is metallic!). Which one gets the surcharge? The HB, just because it is deemed "more luxurious".
This is what happens when accountants take control of production matters.

an actual real British Racing Green would be nice. I've always thought it was a pity that they give us Bavarian Black Forest Green and call it BRG.
I also wish for more non-metallic colors. Has anyone noticed the lack of bright colors in the line-up? It's even worse in the BMW line-up.
I agree, the $450 charge for metallic paint is just for a bump in the bottom line.

Compared to just about any other car company, MINIs line-up of "bright" colors is top of the line.
Chili Red, Laser Blue, Mellow Yellow, Hot Orange, Oxygen Blue. What other company offers any bright color other than red and yellow? (In a similar price range, obviously :P)

Probably one of my few complaints about the MINI. Imagine this car in the classic Jag BRG
