Swapping out interior Parts

I have the anthracite interior trim. Anyone in the Chicago Land area interested is swapping out their silver dash and door trim?

I might like to trade the door trim. Please send IM if that would work for you?

Um, you have have a problem with the lower door speaker grilles, They are melted to the door panel and USUALLY don't come off with the possiblity of reusing. All the other pieces - Dash, radio pillars, upper door trims are all interchangable - except H/K door speaker covers. Just thought you might want to know....

Thanks Rich, I have the H/K speakers too. Hey FPM, maybe we could try exchanging some of the parts to get the look we are both looking for.

I don't want to swap the whole door panel, just the trim without the speaker trim. I have the chrome one. It's the anthracite oval trim I want to exchange. Is that possible?

Sure it is possible to swap out the oval rings. Keep in mind that they too are melted to the door panel and you will have to glue them back on. I have a door panel that is being delivered this week, I will let you know what the inside looks like and shoot some pics.

FPM, what year is your car? Dustin's is a 2005. I know that the handle is different on the 02-04 cars.

CooperGear, where did you buy your door panel? I am also looking to take out my light gray interior panels and put in new black ones. I have an '02. I'd like to know how hard it would be to remove the oval and handle, as well...

I got most of the parts I purchased yesterday, just not the door handle. I am still waiting to hear back from them. I will let you guys know how easy/hard it is when I get the panel.

I got it off of ebay from a salvage dealer.

How hard is it to take off the door ovals and 3 pieces on the dash? I don't want to change the light silver, just the few pieces with the Silver Patina. I'm not a huge fan of it and I'd like to get them custom painted. I'm having them painted by a friends in a dark black cherry color by House of Kolors. Now after reading these posts, I'm a little concerned about removing and re-installing them. Has anyone done this?

I have not pull off my door parts, yet.

The Dash is easy, be sure to un bolt the tach to not rip the rubber boot around the top of the steering wheel. The two side come off 1st then the middle one. You can also twist off the two vent rings for custom finishes too.

BtyMINI - The center door ovals are - GLUED - into place. They can be removed... But Trust ME - Time is NOT money. Take your time heating and unglueing. It will take a LONG time, but it can be done.

seems to me that the trading parts is going to be a pain, so I asked around and was lead to this http://www.lylesvinylstyles.net/interiorvinyl I asked him if he does the ovals too and will let you all know when I find out. Check out his site, cool stuff.

FYI, The Good Guys at http://www.lylesvinylstyles.net/interiorvinyl told me "The door handle/Oh ***** grip is a PITA to remove. There are plastic weld spots that you need to dremmel off, and then use JB weld or something similar to get it back on"

Based on that info from someone in the know, along with SRICHS, I'm going to pass on trading door parts, just think it will be more work and long term risk then it's worth for my daily driver. Would hate to do it and end up with some on going issue or rattle that would drive me crazy with each passing day.

I have to agree. This became much more difficult than expected.
