This may have been discussed before, but i didn't find anything from my search. My front stock runflats (Dunlops) are cooked, but the rear ones are in great condition. I eventually want to get away from run flats and probably get some kumho ecsta tires, but since I only need to replace two I'm not sure what to do. I figure I have two options:

1) Replace front dunlops with the same runflats until all four need to be replaced (probably another 30k miles). (~$320)

2) Replace front dunlops with kumho ecsta and have different tires on the front than I do in the back (non-runflat/runflat, kumho/dunlop). (~$180)

Is it even safe/smart to do option 2? I figure at least with option 1 I can start rotating the wheels and get a little more even wear on them. Where as option 2 I don't think I'd do that. But then again option 2 is much cheaper.

Having just put Kuhmos on all the way around, they ride smooth, quiet, and provide a substantially better ride!

If money is tight ..... go with the new front Kuhmos, or check the "for sale tires and wheels" board and buy some take-off run flats.

I've seen lots of guys autoX with different tires front and back!

 

If you don't specifically need runflats then

Or option 3

replace all four tires with non runflats- the Kumhos are OK.
