Is this normal?

I recently bought a used 2005 MC with an automatic trans. The car runs well, but I have a question regarding shifting from Park to Drive or Reverse.
When I shift to either one, it doesn't seem to engage immediately. There seems to be a small delay of about 1 second. Is this normal?
I'm still under warranty. I asked the dealer about it, and they said it's normal on the regular MC. The MCS does not do that.
Can anyone with a MC auto tell me if in fact this is normal? I can live with that if it is, but I don't want to ignore it as long as it's under warranty.

Thanks,

If you mean the slight hesitation you get after putting it in gear and pressing on the accelerator (more pronounced when the tranny is cold) it probably is normal for the CVT. This hesitation is the time it takes for the clutches to engage...not unlike letting out a clutch on a manual car. These CVT's really are nothing like what is normally considered an automatic transmission (which the S uses). I wish BMW and MINI would provide more information to buyers on what to expect and how to properly use this technology but I suspect most drivers aren't that into the technical side of it. However, they really aren't getting an automatic as many are lead to believe. You might go to MINI2 and read their sticky's relating to this CVT tranmission for good instruction on how to extract the most from this pretty neat peice of technology.

Minitoo and Joey1320, thanks a lot for your explanations. It gives me a great deal of comfort that this is not a repair issue.
