the new tire sensors - any concerns choosing wheels?

It's my understanding that the latest Minis coming off the line now have tire sensors installed on the wheels. Does that present any issues when selecting after market wheels? Any issues re-installing the sensors?

There is a thread or two on this if you search 'TPMS'. I didn't have any trouble. The TPMS valve stem comes off the OEM wheel and goes on the aftermarket wheel. A cheap adapter kit may be needed to get it to fit from what I've heard but I did not have this problem. Where I did run into trouble was from a totally unexpected source... the wheel bolts are 14mm instead of 12mm and the wheels I ordered had openings that were too small. This is just something to verify before you order. Konig reshipped new wheels for me with the wider openings.

Thanks! I searched 'TPMS' and read this.

Kind of bummer, since I was planning on ditching the runflats sooner or later. Guess I'll be looking for one of those miniature spares to keep in the back.

I'm not sure what the best backup plan is. I don't think most miniature spares will fit over the front because of the big brake calipers. For now I have a plug/patch kit and portable compressor. That should suffice for all but the worst scenario. I just keep reminding myself I haven't had a flat in ten years.

Konig Feathers

Hey Fugitive,

Where did you order your Konig Feathers from? I want to be certain they send out the correct 14mm bolt holes. Is this something they make or did it have to be done custom? did you install the factory TPMS valves from the original wheels?

Also, is your car using the stock suspension, or did you lower it slightly?

Your car is looking sweet!!

Thanks!

Braden

You wouldn't want to use the donut spare in the front, especially if your car has LSD (the different diameter wheels would end up causing the LSD to engage constantly). If you had a spare, and got a flat in the front the proper procedure would be to move one of the rear wheels to the front, and then put the donut spare in the back.
