Hard-fought victory for Octane Motorsport at Mosport
44 competitors were registered for the Indian Summer trophy, the next to last stop of the Castrol Canadian Touring Car Championship, running at Mosport International raceway on September 15 and 16.
Leading the Touring class, driver Alain Lauziere came with a well-prepared car, expecting close racing. “We finished installing our new suspension,” commented crew chief Louis-Philippe Allard. “We are hoping that the new set-up decreases our lap time by a few tenths”.
During the Saturday Qualifying session, Lauziere managed a blistering 1:35:7 to take the pole position and put an extra 5 points in the bank. “The MINI Original Parts Cooper S is just awesome today,” commented Lauziere after the session.
The race was filled with action as Lauziere and Andre Rapone, driving an Acura pulled away from the pack while managing to exchange the lead position a few times. Rapone managed to cross the finish line in first with Lauziere on his rear bumper, finishing only 2/10ths of a second behind after 20 minutes of racing. The cool weather on the Saturday proved just perfect for lap records to fall as Lauziere took another 4/10th off the record during the race.
The 40-minute race on Sunday would proceed with competitors starting with the same positions as they finished on Saturday. Lauziere and Rapone continued their battle, but this time a few cars from the Super Touring and GT class were part of the action. They exchanged the lead many times and were still bumper-to-bumper with 4 laps to go. At the end of the Andretti straightaway, Lauziere tried to out brake Rapone going to the inside, with Rapone, unaware that Lauziere had pulled the move, the two cars made heavy contact but managed to continue without spinning. At this point, the car having suffered the least damage would continue to take the win, Lauziere crossing the finish line in first position. “Wow, that was a hard-hit” commented Lauziere. ”I feel sorry for Andre he truly deserved the win today, having driven like a veteran; it’s amazing that the MINI was able to continue with so little damage, which says a lot about the solidity of this car”.
Throughout the weekend, Lauziere managed to increase his lead in the championship by another 26 points, now leading Robert Calisi, driving a Honda Civic by 148 points. Lauziere can to finish up to 5 positions behind Calisi at the next race to clinch the championship.

Excellent driving!!
Good work Alain,
Great battle of changing leads, that was quite a tap you got on the side.
We are getting the car ready for the Octoberfest BMW club race in Texas in two weeks.
Looks like I will the only Mini against all the Beemers.
Keep up the good driving, your cars sounds strong.
Regards,
Steve

Thanks all!
If you're bored, take the popcorn out. The race in the video is 40 minutes + all the garbage. I didn't edit it. I'm sure you'll like the "rear-view mirror" effect. Kinda puts a perspective on things.

Awesome vid Alain, and results (again)!
I was watching on my laptop in bed, and my wife got a little upset with the noise
. At least my MINI doesn't sound so loud to her now...
Why did you pop open the gloove box? Extra ventilation maybe? Really like having the rear view vid also. Sounds like you had its audio on also as it was much quieter when that view was not available...

I couldn't figure out how to turn down the volume on the rear cam. Racing in stereo!
Though I'd update this. The strut tower was just fine. Can't say the same about the shock though. We also replaced the lower spindle.
