Banner Handoff 9/23

I am going to meet some folks from Chatanooga to hand off the Cancer Banner this Sunday. We are meeting at Smokin Joes BBQ at 11:30AM in Collinsville, AL for a bite of BBQ. Never been to Collinsville, never heard of the BBQ place, I just closed my eyes & clicked on the map (kinda ) so it will all be a new adventure.

If anybody wants to ride up with me for the handoff to show our bama spirit, that would be great. We could make a little ride out of it & meet somewhere off I-65N or I-59 (UAB exit or Trussville exit?) in the morning & ride up together. From Pelham to Collinsville is under 90 miles (from Trussville it's 67 miles) so the drive won't be too far.

If anybody wants to join me let me know ASAP so we can pick a meeting place for Sunday morning (we would probably need to meet around 10AMish)

Oooohhh something has just been brought to my attention that I never knew (thanks manuel). There is a big cat park about 7 miles from Collinsville, AL so that might make for an interesting visit on Sunday when we hand off the banner.

Anybody anybody??? If nobody goes with me I just might have to hit it by myself as I would love to see the tigers up close & it even says you get to pet a cub.

OK here's the final plan
  • We will meet at the Chevron Station at 711 Hwy 11, Trussville, AL 35173. We will pull out at 10AM sharp.
  • We will take Hwy 11 from Trussville to Collinsville, AL. Hwy 11 runs parallel to I-59. The drive is around 60 miles & who wants to drive on the interstate for 60 miles
  • We will meet the TN folks at Smokin Joes BBQ at 11:30AM Central Time. The BBQ place address is 5360 SR-68, Collinsville, AL 35961.
  • After grabbing a bite to eat we will head over to the Tigers for Tomorrow Park to tour the park & hopefully get to pet a baby tiger cub if they have any. The tiger park address is 708 CR-345, Collinsville, AL 35961.
I know it's short notice but I hope some folks can make the drive & outing with us to meet some of our TN MINI friends to hand off the Cancer Banner

Aww man! We don't get back until the 27th
Who is getting the banner? Mid-TN or the Scenic City MINI folks? (I'll have to drive up with them when THEY hand it off )

Yeah, I spotted that in the other forum. It's either Scenic City or a mix of TN clubs. They're also getting together to sign the banner on the day I fly back from Germany So once again we miss it Oh well, I'll catch up to it sooner or later

Sorry...I'm running so far behind on the posts....Yes it is Scenic City MINIS that is picking the banner up and we will be handing it over to the Knoxville group next. I am not certain on that date yet. I believe they have a member that works here daily and will hook up with one of us soon.
DS - I'm sorry you are going to miss it. To the best of my knowledge, it is going next to Mid Tn MINIS in Nashville. Maybe you can catch it there??

The banner will heading from the Mid-Tn MINIS to the MidSouth MINIacs sometime between 10/13 and 10/20. I think the plan is for us to take it on the Making Strides Against Breast Cancer walk here in Memphis. Not sure what the plan is after that - think we are trying for the Arkansas MINI group (AMOK) or the St. Louis MINI group.

We are MORE than glad to help in any small way. I lost a very, very good friend to colon cancer a year ago on the 16th. So this is very near and dear to my heart. Nobody should have to go through what he went through.

For me, in East Tennessee, it's because of my Mom. 3 1/2 year survivor.

I was hoping we could manage to move it across the state of Tennessee with the MINI clubs. Thanks to all who have stepped up to make it happen. Sorry to hijack, just trying to get the word out. The missing link at this moment is a transfer from Middle Tennessee to Memphis, so any Mid-Tenners reading....we need you.

Yeah, and it's a great excuse to do a run (After all, Nashville isn't far from Huntsville)

Well it was just shorn & me with manuel meeting us at the BBQ place. You guys sure did miss a great ride. We took Hwy 11 all the way from Trussville to Collinsville & the scenery was amazing. On the way back we zigged & zagged & went down Hwy 411 through Ashville for a bit & the scenery was again just amazing. That was just an all around nice driving day. We got some killer pictures of the banner with tigers in the background. I will post em as soon as I get em uploaded

Wishing good luck to all the TN MINIS in their fundraising ventures.

Last I heard, Nashville to Memphis was covered. I don't know all the details but I am pretty sure there is a classic Mini involved!

Was the tortoise asleep and what was the chicken doing? It seems that everyone holding the sign were a little close to the tiger enclosure. Really nice pics though, sorry I missed this little adventure. Thanks for sharing.

The tortoise didn't move the whole time we were there so we can only hope he was just asleep The chicken was cool looking. It had feathers on it's feet. The lady said it was a chinese chicken (or something like that)

The cats were fascinated by the long box that the banner was in. And even more fascinated by the sound it made when Manuel scritched his fingers on it. I thought he was going to get us eaten.
