Your MINI and orange cones

How many in here have orange cones stashed away in your mini that you take out every time you park and place the cones around your mini?

http://www2.northerntool.com/product-1/200324765.htm <-- I am gonna get 4 of those once i get my mini

I am just so paranoid about someone denting the car and i don't even have my mini yet

The cones will just get stolen by an autocross club!

That never occurred to me...and I'm not entirely sure it would help because the idiots out there wouldn't even see the cones.

It's funny, though! What you need are a set of those GIANT cones...

I am going to get few of those anyway. I drive into work early and more often than not have nice parking spots to pick - ill just pick the place where i can put the cones on one side and the back.

For some folks, putting cones around your car would be the equivalent of a big sign that says "Please Key Me!"... personally I'd never do that... it just invites trouble. If you're that worried about it, invest in a thick car cover and use it whenever you can't get an "isolated" space. A CoverKing custom cover in the Coverbond 4 material is what I use at the airport and in other "unfriendly" overnight situations.

Ex-actly. If I saw some yob who actually put cones around his car in the parking lot I'd probably go out of my way to hit it with my door, or maybe some strategically placed shopping carts.

Your best bet is to either park out in the boonies, or find other people with really nice cars to park next to who'll go out of their way to not hit yours and mess up their own paint.

I purchased a pre-owned car that had a few pre-owned door dings. It makes me a little less paranoid. Still I try not to park next to trashed out cars hoping that nicer cars have more aware people. Also I avoid SUVs when possible. Thinking that smaller cars have shorter doors and sometimes less kids. No cones for me. I too think that would just invite trouble.

Put out bumpers like boats use when they dock.

Bungee a set of pool noodles around the car.

It's sad, but almost anything you do as protection will catch the attention of the wrong company.

I've been very picky with the parking spots I go for. They are usually way out in the depths of any shoppers paradise. So far so good. I just have to remind the DH to think of this car as his GT500 and park it as he would his own.
