R56 Missing MFSW installed under warranty
Missing MFSW installed under warranty
I got an early 07 MCS, delivered 3/7. It was one of the cars ordered with the Multifunction Steering Wheel that was built without it yet the sticker still showed it.
The dealer refunded the cost of the MFSW and advised me to complain to Mini and ask for a retro fit. I did that. Oh, and the dealer didn't tell me about the wheel until we were there to pick it up - his bad.
At any rate, I thought nothing would become of it after asking the dealer twice if there would be a retro fit and being told that they knew of none.
There were dealer reps at a Mini event I attended recently so I asked again and was told that there would be a retro fit. I also asked about the storage compartment (I only knew about it from NAM!) and they said that there would be retro fit for it as well.
I called the dealer after that weekend, gave him my vin and they scheduled an appointment to retro fit both the MFSW and the storage compartment.
When I dropped the car off and they 'read' the key and entered the vin number. I did not see anything come up related to the MFSW or the storage compartment just the miles to oil change and miles to brake pads. I could have missed it too since I'm obviously not familiar with what shows on their screens.
They installed the MFSW and then had to reprogram the entire car. At some point in the reprogramming it stopped and told them a different turn signal module was needed. They had to keep my car for a couple of days while they ordered one. This was the first MFSW retrofit they had done so they did not know the turn signal module was needed.
So now I have the car back and everything works! Best of all it was covered under warranty with no cost to me. Basically I got the MFSW for free, but had to wait a few months.
I asked why I had not recieved any kind of notice from Mini. They informed me that Mini was not sending out notices to customers or the dealers. Basically you have to ask and they will do the retrofits. If you never ask for it you never get it!
So dear NAM readers, please spread the word so that all MFSW-less owners may be blessed with a full measure of MFSW and storage compartment goodness which is rightfully theirs!
Now if I could only get a jack and wrench to go in the empty spaces in my tool kit, but that is a battle for another day. Today I bask in the glory of high speed travel sans accelerator foot!
