Fall colors/leaf peeping drive starting in Colorado Springs ***DATE CHANGE***

Guess I'll start a post for people that want to go on a drive to do some leaf peeping.

My suggestion is 22SEP07. Leaving Colorado Springs around 10:00AM. Route tbd but probably the below link with a stop at the hot dog place in Bailey.

http://maps.google.com/maps?f=d&hl=e...34717&z=9&om=1

I'm open to suggestions. I promise to stop at all yellow lights so I don't leave anyone behind like I did the last time I lead. hehe

Oh, estimated time of drive is 4 hrs. I can't do another 10 hr drive even though it was fun hehe.

****DATE CHANGE******

Sorry folks but due to unforseen circumstances I won't be able to do this ride on 22SEP07.

The dates I would be able to do this ride would be 23SEP07 or 06OCT07. Anyone have any preferences?

Would love to do it. Except I will still be in Yuma until the 21st and I am driving back so I will not be back until the morning of the 22nd. Tammy and I will have to wait until the next one.

Sounds like a plan! A 4 hour ride, less time required for a great hot dog lunch, sounds great to me!

The Hot Dog hot dog place was in Bailey but is now further West all by it's self. I know that bigfun04 from St. Louis Mini's marked the locaton on his GPS.

(Shouldn't you remove Spoon's antlers during hunting season? )

Is the giant hot dog open for business yet? It was moved (Rick and some MINIs followed it and were featured in coverage of the move) and earlier this summer Rick and others stopped during a ride and talked to the owner (he was there even though it wasn't open). He was going to contact Rick when he got it open for business so we could do a drive up there.

Dianne,

Yes, I went there Saturday of MITM2 w/ the St. Louis group. We got there about 3:00P & had to wait 45 minutes in line! Just barely made it back to Copper in time for the banquet! :impatient

The setting where it is located now located is worth the trip w/ picnic tables next to the river w/ lots of trees. Parking for a group extends past the gravel lot in front of the building on a grass area.

Good point. I should remove the antlers so SPOON doesn't get mistaken for game.

Just posting a reply in case anyone is watching this post and don't see that I couldn't make it on 22SEP07 due to unforseen circumstances.

I'm up for a ride on 23SEP07 or 06OCT07.

Anyone have any preferences or still want to go?

06OCT07 leaf peeping drive

Alright, I guess it's going to be 06OCT07 for the leaf peeping drive. We'll start at 10:30AM from Garden of the Gods visitor center. Not sure how the Denver folks want to do this if there will be any coming along. That route is kind of nice because it will drop us off on 470 so the Denver folks don't have to drive too far to get home but they still have to get to the Springs some how.

Intercoolest, does that hot dog place have a web site? I want to check it out and see if they have any gluten free options.

As much fun as this sounds... I'm not going to be able to make it.

We'll be out of town the entire first week of October and won't return till late that Saturday. Have a good drive though!

See all of you around. Maybe at the Yalla Yalla.

Hey guys, on topic, I must share with you my leaf peeping experience today. When driving to Blackhawk for an Uncles birthday party we couldn't help but notice that all the foliage of the surrounding hillsides were changing. There were a LOT of changing leaves up there, even a few that were hinting at red and other such colors.

When talking to said uncle he claimed that the leaves began turning about a week ago. Fom this day forward I'd recommend taking time to visit the hills. <sung like bob dillan> The leaves they are a changin.

Just thought you should know.

Nthwolf-Mrs.

I am not sure about the Hot Dog place having a website nor am I sure about their menu having gluten free options. Have been busy recently but will do some investigation.

How would just the dog be w/out bun?

Post this on the mini5280 calendar. It is easy or ask Rick to do it for you. Some folks may miss it if not on the calendar.

Just 37 hours to go & only 2 signed up? :impatient See the mini5280 calendar.

My Grand Daughter Kendall, 2 1/2, is coming. She called me today to let me know her parents said YES! Then she told me she likes ketchup on her hot dog.

So, we are going & looking forward to the giant Hot Dog place on Hwy 285!

IC,

No worries. I'm going to be a passenger this time. Figure I'd let my wife drive since she's more familiar with this route. She used to drive it all the time when she was commuting from Bailey to Colorado Springs.

My vote goes for Rascal because I like weiner dogs although if I had one I'd name him French Fry. hehe

Oh my holy crap, I didn't even look at the map until today! This is so exciting, because I might drop off up near Denver to go to a greyhound group picnic, depending on when we get there, I am so excited!!! Yippee.
See you all tomorrow.
