MINI Takes The States 2008!

MINI TAKES THE STATES 2008.

MINI is taking the states again in 2008. But this time around we want YOU to help decide what we’re doing. So don’t be shy. Cast your vote (only once per Owner) and then let us know if you have any big ideas or little suggestions for making the event even better.
OPTION #1: THE ROAD TRIP TO END ALL ROAD TRIPS.
If you’re an “if it ain’t broke don’t fix it” kind of person then this option is for you. It would basically be a similar concept as last time. A roving herd of MINI Owners would motor along a pre-determined, nationwide route, stopping in different locations along the way. This approach lets participating MINI Owners join up for the entire journey or just a few legs.
OPTION #2: THE BIG BANG.
In June, MINI United 2007 gathered MINI Owners from around the world for one giant party weekend in the Netherlands. So maybe we try something similar for Owners here in the U.S.? We would hold one spectacular festival over a long weekend in the summer, giving MINI owners the opportunity to motor from all across the country to one central location.
OPTION #3: CLOSER TO HOME.
Even though all our MINIs would jump at the chance to stretch their cross-country legs, we’d love as many MINI Owners as possible to make it. So maybe we arrange for 4 smaller events to take place in different regions of the country? Maybe we even stagger the events so that the hardcore Motorers could make it to more than one event next summer?
COMMENTS & SUGGESTIONS: Was there an element from the first MINI Takes the States that you loved and would want to keep even if we change formats? Do you have a brilliant idea for how to get even more MINI Owners to come? Here’s the place to suggest any and all ways to make the next MINI Takes the States even better.
:g rin::gri n:

Woohooo!!! I got this from the mini usa board... Looks like they are going to do it again. All you have to do is go to the mini website.. and sign up to enter the owners lounge and place your vote.. how you would like to see them do it..
I for one, hope they do like they did in the first one.. Ill be watching this patiently.. Thought maybe you would all like to see it..

Can you tell I am excited.. Woohoo lets mini on!!!!

I voted #3
We did the whole thing last time and it was a blast but we didn't get to stop, breath and enjoy asny of the cities. My suggestion would be to have a break point, like 2 stops that are 2-3 days somewhere along the way. I can say I went to all these cool places but I couldn't tell you a thing about them. I think a big giant bash would be AWESOME!!!

I actually voted option #2 - hoping that the 'central' location would be just that. Living in Nebraska, I would hope for something close. The reason for my choice would be whatever funds they are going to spend could potentially be more of an event if spent all in one place vs. spreading that amount at different locations. Option #3 was my next choice.

The SAAB guys do an annual owner's convention and move it around the country each year, they do it near a track or amusement park and it's a blast. I'll vote #3, kind of a variant of that. Also, when you do something like that, it let's the vintage and race built cars participate that would not do a cross country run...

I posted in the National MTTS '08 thread, but since I'll be joining the club as soon as I get mine, I figured I could weigh in here, too! Since I don't want to cross post, let me just say that with the exception of last Christmas, it's been a few years since I've taken a really long road trip (and I've got the built-up vacation time to prove it! hehe), so any of these options will be great! It'll be a nice long getting-to-know-her trip, not too terribly long after I get my Mini! So, I'm in! It'll be awesome!

CARdiac (Joel) and I voted for #1. We joined the group last year in Memphis and drove all the way out to New York. We had a blast. To a degree, I agree with StoopidGirl (Emily) that if #1 were to be done again, the pacing needs to be a little better. Spending more than one night in the major areas would be much better than just one. Wishful thinking or not....we would still love to see Seattle to Key West done.....but are game for anything.

Its also in the new issue of MC2 and they would like to stay in small towns instead of the cities and eat and smaller venues. I am game for anything they want to do. If my health lets me I will be there regardless. Luke, Prez

I guess I'll go with #3 and hope we could do a east coast type trip possibly ending in the KEYS. The VEGAS Rally in March, '08 would make a great #2; perhaps MTTS could join in with Sin City and make that one huge meeting (they're already expecting over 600 MINIs!!).

Option #3. I'd love to do #1, but I just don't have the time or money... :-(

Voted for #3. Did a few legs close to home last MTTS and was great. Would also like to do #2.

Greetings everyone,
As we all need to plan our vacations this year, we at MC2 have been told by our friends that the dates for MTTS Part II are as follows:Miami FL. June 13-15Boston June 20-22
Chicago July 11-13
Los Angeles July 18-20
The Miami and Boston dates and locations are 100% locked down, but our info on Chicago and LA are not yet concrete, as MINI is still working on these times and locations. We feel they're secure enough to inform everyone at this time.Just what they're planning at these locations, we don't know for sure, but we will get back to you ASAP when we know more. Until then, we cannot reveal anything greater than we write here.[We will be at all four of these events with staff and support team of writers, photographers and video team, so do let us see your classic and new mini if it's worth featuring in MC2. If you have any ideas of how we can cooperate with each other in reaching our mutual audience, then please do let me know soon, as I am making plans to be at MINIs On Top (June 27-29) now. In conversation with the MOT folks, we are wanting to reach out to our advertisers so that we may collect enough products to make up the 2nd largest prize this year- to build someone's MINI from nothing but aftermarket products! We're looking for all sorts of things, so e-mail me soon. Our major events for 2008 are AMVIV, MOT, then onwards to the event of the decade at Magical Mystery MINI Tour, San Francisco, Labour Day weekend 2008. We are planning on 1,000-1,500. I am in daily touch with Norm at the sponsoring club (REME) and am somewhat responsible for sponsors and vendors in working with Norm. It's going to be BIG and we're wanting to invite a selected amount of companies with an eye towards some exclusivity to your market segment, so start reaching out to me soon please, as there are only 30 tents available.[
Thanks for your help..

You make a good point, Luke.
Two strong dealerships, (Hendrick and Flow)
two beloved clubs, (M2C2 and THMMC),
one race shop (GrassRootsGarage),
StoopidGirl and Tuls live here now,
you and others have some consistent show winners,
we have vintage Minis as well as new MINIs running around,
we're all active on NAM

I would think that would add up to consideration at a minimum--that is, I would have expected them to contact the dealerships and the officers of the clubs to see if the Carolinas make sense...guess not--maybe MOTD is the reason?

From: Philly area.
I wonder where the highest density of MINI owners is around the country?
You know a simple breakdown, like California (L.A.), Florida (Miami), then ???, etc...
I for one could easily justify a 500+ mile trip (one way) from where I live to one of few decentralized locations. (option3)
Well it seems that Miami, Boston, are good to go with Chicago and Los Angeles close behind.
I get the LA and Miami selection, Chicago, right in the middle, Boston, still workable for us north easterners BUT Philadelphia even Valley Forge could be better, probably pull more people I would think, just doing a little gross population math in a 500 mile radius of Philly....2009?
Demographically speaking who knows...does anyone really?

BTW most of the other clubs I've heard of (even BMW motorcycle) have their annual thing in a single location that changes from year to year, so I miss most of them....no biggie, can't expect to have one in my area like Philly... oops did I just...

Well,
I for one plan on trying to get to miami. Yeah its not in SC.. but we are blessed to be close to the Dragon. They weren't going to satisfy everyone. I for one wanted the road trip to end all road trips, but the
general concensus said no... it's all good.. I was excited to move to the states because of MTTS.. and well if I can't have it my way, I'll just join in the fun. It's about the car .. not necessarily the location!!

Sheesh woman! You won't even let me whine in peace? ;-0

You're right, though, no matter where they held it somebody would complain about the location, and it should be a fun event.

I just don't find MINICHI a good highway car--she's much better suited to the track...

I think that this is going to be awesome. I wish they had more than one west coast event though. Chicago is pretty far and I really wanted to go to two of the events.
