Crap and here I am just starting to look into what it will take to become a pilot, and trying to figure out how to pay for it all.

I can tell you from personal experience that unless you go the military route, you can pretty much count on selling everything you own and living in poverty from now till you make it to one of the majors.
So that being said, it will normally take about 2 -5 years to get to the right seat of one of the majors.
Then be prepared to live somewhere that none of the senior pilots would ever want to live (for at least 5 more years).

I'm not trying to talk you out of it, I'm just trying to prepare you in a way that none of the flight schools ever will.

Of course if your just talking about getting your private pilot and poking holes in the clouds then thats a different story all together.

Have fun, I know you will...

Ah, I remember the good ol' days--when I got my license it cost about $1,000. Of course, a Gremlin cost $1999 back then...

Bought our first plane for $3500. Sold it 2 years later for $3250. Those were the days!
