newbie, just ordered a Cabrio
well last night i ordered a mini cooper cabrio, for my wife
Mellow Yellow, Panther black interior, and White triming (wheels, strips, and mirrors)
5spd, sport, premium, union jack rear view mirror, and heated seats
what should i look out for when i get the car ? (problems, rattles, sqeaks, etc.)
btw, i do plan on stealing the little guy from my wife on those nice sunny days, and a couple autox's too when i'm not running my car.

Sounds like a great set up! Welcome to NAM!
Where in the world are you located? Always nice to find out where someone is, and get pictures as soon as they're available!
Of course, you have some wait ahead of you, but that's part of the fun of being in this 'family'! Be glad and enjoy the experience!

Welcome, congrats on the cabrio, and nice rex!
The cooper cabrio should be pretty trouble-free - once you learn the things than can stop the top from working (hidden switches in the boot for the latches and the shelf...)
My #1 cabrio recommendation - buy MultiVex mirrors for both sides... makes the rear visibility a non-issue.

Hi, welcome (new here myself) - I am curious if you ordered the 2008, what did they tell you about production dates and when you might see your new baby?
I was told 9/1/07 and it would take about 8 weeks. Just curious if this is in line with what you might have heard.

I'll be curious to hear how you compare the two autos. We've read various comparisons between the 'rex' and the 'cooper', but I don't think from anyone with both cars in their 'stable'! Also, remember, if you've modded the rex, the 'plain' cooper will not have the pep of the "S" model. (No offence intended, "just the facts ma'am, just the facts".)
Congrats on the pending MINI and welcome to NAM. Don't forget to check out all the local MINI action at Sunshine MINIS. It's a fun car to Autocross, hope to see ya at some local events!!

)i have to say the mini is much nicer then the dubs. for a FWD car is really handles great and is very nimble. the S would have been nice but it was a little pricey and since its really for the wife, we decided that a regular one would be better for what we need.
BTW, thanks guys for the input we really think the yellow w/ white is going to looks hot.
Yep - absolutely - but not at retail pricing - shop around - deals can be found on ebay (for gently used ones as well as new) and at some dealers who offer 20% off retail...
And see the sticky at the top of this forum about the much more reasonable and effective aftermarket windscreen
The real advantage of the aftermarket one (besides the price) comes from the ability to use it with back-seat passengers, pets, or cargo that wouldn't fit under the OEM windscreen.
I have the OEM windscreen, and it's perfect for me because I never carry passengers in the back. It also goes in and out of the car quicker than the aftermarket one, although I generally just leave it in place all the time.
One poster said that using the OEM windscreen and the aftermarket one *at the same time* reduced the wind buffeting even more than the OEM screen alone, so I may try that, although I'll have to get used to unzipping the aftermarket windscreen any time I want to toss something into the back seat.
well guys the wife and i started to think, about maybe looking at the S model.
so we went and checked out the S cabrio and guess what it was roughly 1k more then the car we had on order.
well we switched the order of our car to a Mini Cooper S cabrio.
its going to be Red, w/ white trim, black top and interior; 6spd, LSD (a must have at only $500), cold pack (the wife needs heated seats and the standalone option is the same price as cold pack, BTW '08 prices came out today),and hood strips
so now i can run my car (STi) in BSP and that mini in GS.
now its time to get some R-comps for the mini

I've driven an MCC for 2yrs and it has been fantastic! The top will rattle/squeek a bit when the sunroof is open, but other than that it is a very tight car. My top has worked flawlessly. IMHO the M7 USS is the first mod any cabrio owner should do. It will reduce body flex and improve handling immensely. Also a Multivex side mirror is a must. as rear and side visibility is pretty poor on this car. Yer gonna have a blast drivin this car.
WTH is a M7 USS.
i just can't wait to get the S and kick some "GS" GTi *** with a little cabrio at the local autoXs. i'm so going to campanion the two cars next year. (my wife is going to hate me)
guys thanks for the input.
BTW, who offers good front sway bars ?

It's buried in there. Here's a link to the actual mirrors...
And here's more detail on the M7 USS (Under Strut System).

I agree completely with the recommendations for Multivex. I have lots of mods on my cabrio, but this is what I recommend as the very first, number one mod on a new cabrio. It's a safety and driveability issue. Without it, lane changing and merging to the right side can be high anxiety. The Multivex makes the huge blind spot on the passenger side completely manageable. It's optional for the drivers side, where the blind spot is similar to other cars.
