R52 Should I trade in/sell 2005 MCC for a 2007/2008?
Should I trade in/sell 2005 MCC for a 2007/2008?
Okay, I love my MCC, but I have never loved the "jerky" factor. (I have an automatic -- I never really was very good at driving a stick)
Anyway, I have heard that the jerkiness factor is gone in the 2007 and 2008's. I am seriosuly considering trading in or selling.
I only have 12,500 miles and it is a 2005, so I based on that somebody should be really happy and are virtually getting a new car even though it is a few years old. (I live 4 miles from work, and we use DH's car on long trips)
What do y'all think?
Any help would be appreciated.
Oh, I haven't had time to test drive a newer MCC, but I will geta roudn to it -- but I knew y'all would know best.

I guess people are looking, but not answering.
What I mean by "jerky". The CVT at slows sppeds can sometimes "jerk" the car until the speed picks up.
These was a main topic of discusion years ago -- I don't don't know if it is an issue anymore.
I have heard that when BMW took over there were small tweaks and that this issue got tons better.
Hope that explains what I mean. I love my car, but the slow spped thing has gotten annoying.

When BMW took over? BMW has owned MINI since the rebirth of the brand. The CVT is the same in the 2007/2008 MCCs as it was in the 2005's. The CVT is gone from the tin tops starting with 2007. Perhaps that is where you heard that it was fixed?
My MCC does the same thing. I just learned to take off faster from a stop and it's not even noticeable. However, I may trade/sell mine when the 2009's come out so long as there is no CVT tranny.

I have a 2005 MCS manual trans. I recently test drove a 2007 manual MCS and was very impressed. Ever since I bought my MCS I have said I would keep it forever. The test drive may have changed that. So in the future I may either trade or become a two MINI owner.
Obviously since mine and the one I tested were both manual trans, I can't be of much help to you other than to say you need to drive one. Everyone has different sensibilities and where I may be impressed others may be disappointed.
I can't speak to the older automatic, but I did test drive a 2007 MCS auto, I didn't notice jerkiness, just a bit of sluggishness compared with the same year manual. It's a pain in stop and go traffic, but otherwise, the manual shift gives the driver much more control.
The 2006 and 2007 Mini Cooper S convertibles have a 6 speed automatic transmission and do not have the CVT. So the way to get away from the CVT is to buy a "S" convertible. An added benefit is a little wider smile when you step on the gas pedal.

Have you considered getting the new extended maint package for $1500?
Here's what I think:
Pros (of getting a new MCCC/S):
- Newer car with older generation means less quirks
- Get to order with all the packages you want
- Get to order with newer colors
Cons:
- Car payments
- No guarantee if you won't get a bad one with strange problems. It happens even with most reliable cars
- Any personal enhancements are gone
- If you have discontinued color, you are out of luck
I don't see much of a gain here. Why not keep yours and get an extended maint. package (Was that 6 or 7 years?)? Then wait for a year after the 2nd gen MCC(S) comes out so that they can pound out bugs and then test drive it to see if you want it? Having that extended maint. package will help with the sale of your car.
I'm not a fan of a push button start. Sorry, but I own a Prius and that feels like a real start button. Not one of those cars that feels like they 'rigged' it. (it's really strange to see the Prius start as the engine doesn't kick in right away, unless it's really cold.) Bluetooth phone link? Sure it's nice but my GPS does that already. I like the trusty super charged engine. (Hate the bad emission but oh well...). Love the one piece bonnet.
One thing I like about the 2nd gen is the the way they integrated the gps with speedometer.
Unless you are in love with the old technology (engine), you mind as well as wait for the 2nd gen. That's just my 2 cents.
