Custom Cubby Stubby

Just wanted to show off my homegrown short stubby antenna! It's a two piece design with the top being aluminum and the bottom black delrin. Turned on my lathe as one piece so the seam or "step" is minimal. Looks like one solid part. No noticable radio reception loss. Thanks for looking.

You should consider selling some! How are the two materials mated to eachother?

Thanks, and I have considered it, need to price materials, gauge interest and so on. Maybe different colors?

If you do colors, I might even have to try one out. DS bottom/aluminum top, of course this is to be fitted on an 07 base, not a an 02-06, need a mule. :-)

Thanks. The DIY is what I enjoy most about Mods. Also have a DIY strut bar adapted to a set of M7 Strut plates, DIY "9" ball shift ****, DIY clear turn signal bulbs (scotch brite the stockers), painted the side turn signal lenses smoke, powdercoated wheels and painted center caps (R84) with aftermarket center logos. Made a CIA but liked the K&N flat panel with stock box better. O.k. now I'm rambling...

I love DIY as well. Currently I only have a DIY set of driving lamp brackets, but I love the uniqueness of them.

Very nice! Shorty antennae are one of my favorite mods. Not sure if you want to get into the MINI mods business, but you just might find yourself in it.

I'd consider an all-black version if that's possible. My Alta is turning kinda reddish after 3 years.

Need an R56 stock antenna to fit the base? Yes, DS version would be interesting. Cost?

What is your plan?

Don

Should have scrolled up, Louisville, 5 miles east of Boulder, Colorado. The better part of Boulder County.

I have some aluminum tube in for powdercoat close real close to DS, I will send you an '07 DS version for scrutineering. DS base with polished aluminum tip 6mm thread square to base no flare. Will tweak chages accordingly. Should have one to send you by mid next week.

So, presenting a DS Chubby Stubby

Nice work, fits well and the color match is right on. Of course this unit is contrasting with my white roof and black base,
so I will look into getting my base painted to match.

I like some ideas I saw floated around about an core exchange on bases if Mr. MCC can get it done.

This unit is number 2 (R56 Prototype) I think, so you all can pester Mr. MCC to get yours.

Picture I hope is below, otherwise go browse my picasa albums in my sig.

Those are really cool. They kind of look like a bullet with the silver tips. I would be interested in one of these if it could be all black and not terribly expensive.

Don,
Thanks for the kind words. Due to cost, as most everyone knows, is looking like a core exchange will not be feasible. The '07 models do have a big base so maybe to keep things orderly, I will only make black/polished,all polished,
and all black Chubbys?
