The Boat Wait was Easy... 1,200 Mi Break-in is Painful

Still trying out all the new stuff on our new MCSa that arrived this week. I'm ready for a road trip just to get the miles off the odo, so I can rev it up.

Still playing with mods, and waiting for some parts

* looking for quad front lights as soon as somebody makes a bracket for an R56
* Some CF exterior trim pices such as side markers, and door handles,
* Painting out the headlight trim rings and taillight trim

It gets installed on Monday, I'll let you know how it sounds. It's a 3" Cat Back System with straight thru muffler and dual 3" tips. Hope it's OK

Wow, sick looking MINI!!!

I am right there with you. Only 200 miles on the odo right now and it's killing me!!! Tom Petty says the waiting is the hardest part, but he should really say the break-in is the hardest part. The only thing that makes it a little easier than the wait to get it is being able to see it anytime I want by just looking out a window. I still have a hard time believing it's mine when I see it in a parking lot!

Took my MINI home this past Saturday and I'm already half way to finishing my break-in, which I plan to finish up in the local mountains, on a nice drive to Big Sur, or Lake Tahoe this weekend.

** and believe it or not I work 50+ hours a week **

from their video clip, it sounded very good. I will await your opinion especially since my car is also automatic. It would be nice if it also added a few more ponies as they suggest

Hey Rubino, that's one wicked looking R56 that you got on your hands! Love the look of the JCW aero kit and the overall MY scheme. Nice!

Hey, don't worry, soon enough the time will pass and you'll have bested the 1,200 mile mark... Then you can bust loose!

Besides half the fun is in getting there because you are still motoring that MINI aren't ya!

Enjoy & Motor On!

Very sharp MY Mini.

Enjoy the break in period. You've got to take the time to stop and smell the roses or in this case the new car smell.

Thanks guys... Planing a weekend drive and a chance to read the Manual and figure out the programming. Lots of choices.

Still looking for a few bits and pieces to complete the look.

Wow. I will be keeping an eye out for you on the road around here. Wont be difficult in that ride.

By the way, what has everyone been running as far as RPMs during their breakin period? I am at 650mi and I must admit that I have revved it to 4200 or so showing it off. Thoughts? I know this has been debated but just wanted to get some opinions from some folks who are feeling the breakin period as I am now.

I've reached 4.5k a few times and accidentally reached 5+k when over taking. I usually coast around 3k the majority of the time though. This break in period is pretty killer.

Ya know that used to be my sig while I was waiting, I should change it back to "The break in is the hardest part" LOL

I see I'm not the only one in pain. Coming up on 500 mi this weekend, and a 800 mi RT to DC next week should put us over the top. Still in the process of De-chroming. Tails and sides now blacked-out, and considering the headlight trim rings in yellow.

Waiting for Redline with baited breath!

sick MINI!!! I love the black scoop, it'll look great with the black trim (once you do that), and the JCW aero-kit, and those rims... I am jealous! (but I still love my CR/W). Enjoy!

I made 1200! Oh no!

OK, I made it. 1200 miles! WOOO WOOO! Just under 3 weeks. I misbahaved more than once... mostly to 4.5K... Hit 5.5 a few times. No redlines for sure...

You know, I didn't think the wait was soooo bad. The MCS is really fun to drive regardless... Right???? Man, I hope I don't start thrashing it to redline now!

Yeah - breakin miles are a little painful - cause you know the "alter ego" of your nice, friendly, perky MINI is lurking just past 5000rpm... it's a different car when you start living in the 4000-6500rpm band... nice, but a little nasty... in a good way...

I only have 100 miles to go. I hit 5k rpms a couple of times. They break in period is not that bad, I get to drive my Mini and it is the wonderful to drive. the curves in the road have never been so fun, not to mention on and off ramps on the California freeways

Hey, 1,200 miles is only 18.5 hours at 65 mph. You should be able to do that in a day. OK, two days if you want to sleep.

Mine is already broken in.
