my exterior blackout worklog

well i havent started blacking anything out yet, but its going to be within the next few weeks, the first thing i did was shave the "cooper s" emblem on the hatch. ill have better pics tomorow.

i also got my ProStripe 1/2" black tape today. its a little more glossy than i expected, but everything im blacking out will be gloss (tails, wheel archs, the stock rims getting powdercoated gloss black)

i did one piece today, it was windy, and it needs to be cleaned better, cuase theres some bubbles under the tape. i just did this for the hell of it though, i have 150 feet lol. ill do this another day when its not windy. but as far as color goes, i deffinently like the black better than the chrome!

on the list for blackouts are:

-headlights (doing the joey mod, not actually tinting the outer lens)
-headlight rings gloss black
-fogs tinted black with VHT NiteShades transparent spray
-factory driving lights tinted as well
-chrome housing on factory driving lights painted gloss black
-reverse light tinted
-MINI emblems painted gloss black (the MINI wing on front/back of car)
-chrome on the stock grille painted gloss black
-17" S-lites powdercoated gloss black
-beltline blacked out with the tape
-handles/gap cap painted gloss black
-wheel arch's painted gloss black
-rear wiper is getting shaved
-reflectors in wheel arch's tinted
-side little vent things with the "S" on them painted gloss black
-MAYBE down the road, get the exhaust tips blacked out somehow

im pretty sure thats all the black on the car.

ill update the thread as i make progress!

pimpedout,
you're pretty much planning to do all the blacking out that i want to as well. Just got a few questions that, hopefully, you can answer. Are the chromed grill outline, and side repeaters, good pieces for paint? i wanted to do that, but was concerned that the paint might not stick that well, and if it got scratched, would go straight through to the chrome. Also, where are you finding all the black out stuff, as far as door handles, chromed headlight rings, and so on?

chrome on the grille, side pieces, handles, should last if prepped and painted right. im letting my body shop do it gloss black to match the body. the headlight rings too. the gas cap is metal, so paint or powdercoat would be good for that, im just gonna get it painted.

im also getting some Testor's transparent black paint to tint the fogs, tails, and reverse light.

this is also popular, in addition to some good clearcoat, for painting tail and head light rings. you could probably even do the door handles, gas cap, and scoop with good prepwork.
