salvage/rebuild purchase advice

As I ponder the patience-inspiring aspects of slowly accumulating sufficient funds to buy a used MINI, my attention has been drawn at times to the occasional ad for a salvage titled car. Has anyone got advice for me based on their experiences, either good or bad? Are you happily driving a salvaged MINI that cost you thousands less than a never-damaged car? Do you have a horror story to share? I would not ever consider a flood-salvaged car, but what about one that's been in a crash? How can I best tell if it's been competently repaired? Thanks in advance for your wisdom!

My apologies for re-opening a recently discussed topic. I should have done a search first. Sorry.
