Yak roof rack mount questions

I am looking to buy a Yak, but am concerned about the mount of the Q towers.
The proposed clips are Mini specific (Q78), but looking at the car window, I can't see where they would fit or cause any probs.

Info needed

I have a yakima on my 05 MC and haven't had any problems whatsoever. Yak instructions say to mount the front tower 6" from front and back tower 18" from front tower, this puts both towers above the window opening. Well I didn't like the back tower being so close to the front so I mounted it 30" back, similar to where the factory mounts would be, the towers held on fine and I have a wider base. I've had up to three mountain bikes mounted for long trips with no problems at all

Get one of these instead, it is custom designed for the mini. I have it and it is rock solid, works with Yakima bike racks etc.

Thule have a custom mini rack too but it is hard to get in the US, they sell a more general one here which is not as good.

I mounted mine the same way for MTTS and drove 8000+ miles with three exhaust systems and various other parts on top with no problems.

I tried a Yak once but it kept scratching the roof.

Do you know of a reputable on-line source for these Q-towers? I already have all the other Yakima bits from a previous car but want to use them on my '06 MCS.

Mine worked out perfectly. Bought the whole set up from paul@rackoutfitters.com

send him an email, or try the web site

Just be caureful not to tighten down the Q Towers too tightly on the roof surface. You might be left with slight indentations on the roof. Of course if you don't take the rack off, you won't see them. I lost enough MPGs with my rack on that I take it off and install only as needed. It's quick.
Tip: I took black magic marker (permanent) and marked the area on either side of the rack brace for quick reinstallation next time. It's barely visible.
