Question about scratch repair.
Question about scratch repair.
Noticed this morning that my Mini had been keyed last night. I have a foot long scratch now. Anyone have any idea how much tath would cost to get fixed. I imiagine it is less that my insurance deductible.
I'd imagine that would depend on where you go. My wife has an astro black R53 that was keyed across the bonnet. We had bought the MSCa used and we asked the place where we bought it if they could recommend a shop that could fix it, they said they could probably fix it up. We took it to them and they touched it up for about $50. Granted it is a touch up job but after polishing and waxing the bonnet you have to be looking close to see it.
It also depends on how deep the scratch is, if it didn't make it all the way through the clear coat it won't cost as much and will look much better by just having a good polish/wax job.
The only other alternative was to have the bonnet repainted.

Ours did too, so now the question is will you be satisfied with a repair job or not? If it has to be perfect, the bonnet will probably need to be repainted. I'd ask around at respected local repair shops to see who they would recommend. A repair should cost between $50 to at most $100. I have no idea what it would cost to repaint the bonnet.
Through the clear and base to the primer? The only acceptable repair is to repaint the panel, with possible blending to adjacent panel(s) as necessary. Get an estimate from a reputable body shop, and if it greatly exceeds* your comp deductible, give your friendly insurance co. a jingle.
* If your deductible is $250 and the estimate is $300, suck it up and pay for the repair. If the estimate is $750, def give your insurance co a call. You are paying for the coverage, so might as well use it. (comp claims generally do not affect your rates).
