MITM ~ Ride # 11 - Western Dragon
MITM ~ Ride # 11 - Western Dragon
If Deal's Gap can have a Dragon, so can we. We call it the Western Dragon, aka Hwy 103 from Bergen Park to the mouth of Mt. Evans. Also known as Squaw Pass Rd.
This route is famous for twisties. More turns (345) than the 'Eastern' Dragon, much longer (at nearly 31 miles) and quite a bit higher (reaching elevations of nearly 9,000 ft) this road is the ultimate in western motoring.
From Copper, head east on I-70 to Idaho Springs. Take Chicago Canyon up towards Mt. Evans, at which point the 'downhill' Dragon starts. Go to Bergen Park, then turn around and do it 'uphill'. 60 miles of twisties.
Or hop on at Bergen Park (near the Evergreen exit off I-70, just west of Denver) and take it to Mt. Evans. Then cool off downhill towards Idaho Springs, then Copper. Either way, fun fun fun.
And don't forget the t-shirts. Sales end soon. See your map book for full details or post here and we can tell more.

Very Good.
Note that MITM attendees will receive, in advance of the event, an e-copy of our Event Guide with pages upon pages of details on the rides, including maps, directions, options, choices, pictures, and more.
Not going to post the Guide here, but if you are attending, you will get it all.
Thank for the G-map. Slack, are you coming out to MITM from NE?

You should know that
the point where the Dragon begins or ends is the same place you enter Mt. Evans. You can go one way or the other, but not both at the same time. If you want to do the Dragon at night (not necessarily recommended, you lose the views) that is fine, but we recommend daytime.
Mt. Evans at night is the surreal experience. Good during the day too, but night it where it is at.
