R50/53 Michelin Pilot Exalto question
Michelin Pilot Exalto question
I planned to replace my OE 16" runflats with Michelin Pilot Exalto All-Seasons, 205/50-16; however, I just noticed that TireRack's price for those is substantially higher than for the 205/55-16, $163 versus $114. Any idea why such a difference? Would the 205/55 be OK for my 2004 MCS? Both are V-rated. They also have an H-rated 205/55 at about the same price ($118); thoughts?
Unknown about the fit, but 205/55/16 is a VERY common size and 205/50/16 is much less common - that's a good part of the price dfference. The 205/55/16 SHOULD fit since that's the same dia as a 215/45/17 - which fits - but call Alex at the Tire Rack (or email him or check the Wheels and Tires forum) to be sure.
My Dad has the Pilot Exalto in 205/55/16 on his VR6 Jetta and LOVES them. Quiet, long lasting, great in rain, and sticky.

The 55 series tires are taller and so, you will have speedometer & odometer error. If you have lowered your car, there may be fitment issues. The Exalto A/S tires are really great tires, however. I have had a set of the 205/50-16s on my car for a year and the only thing I regret is not putting them on the car at the outset.
